The Manh Choh Project is a greenfield gold deposit in eastern Alaska being developed with ore being hauled to Kinross’ Fort Knox mine north of Fairbanks for processing. The mine site is located in the Tetlin Hills, approximately 250 miles southeast of Fort Knox and 10 miles southeast of Tok. Production is expected to begin in 2024.
Job Summary
Responsible for safe and efficient drill sample collection and assisting with ore control staking and geologic mapping. Ability to complete drill pad inspections, utilize Brunton (or similar) compass, assist Survey with staking, assist Mine Geology in mapping and ore control, and directly interact with contractors with minimal supervision. Responsible for completing work in accordance with Manh Choh procedures. Communication, training, and interaction with contractors to assist with compliance is an essential part of the technicians’ responsibilities.
Essential Functions
•Obtain production drill sample cuttings from the field in a timely manner and deliver for transport.
•Assist geologists with ore control duties including producing drill hole maps and high wall maps.
•Monitor bench mining progression and dig compliance to ore control release and dispatch data.
•Inspect and coordinate pad construction and lay outs for drill holes.
•Assist Survey with ore control, dump staking, or pit survey tasks as needed.
•Provide assistance to operation and maintenance personnel.
•Punctuality and regular attendance is required.
•Meet or exceed established performance expectations set by management.
•Compliance with all company policies and procedures, including, but not limited to, safety, confidentiality, and environmental policies.
•Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the state.
•Work safely in all areas, identify potential safety hazards, and work with management to correct hazards.
•Work without significant risk of harm to self and others.
•Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications and Skill Requirements
•High school diploma or equivalent is required, Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Geology or Engineering is preferred.
•One year experience working with RC, rotary air blast and/or core drilling programs is preferred.
•Possess a working knowledge of mining equipment and how to interact with it.
•Must have or gain an understanding safety rules, company policies, emergency procedures, MSHA requirements, environmental regulations and guidance documents.
•Must have solid computer skills including word processing and spreadsheet programs.
•Must have solid verbal and written communication skills.
•Must be a self-starter with the ability to work with others in a team environment.
•Ability to function within the qualifications outlined in the attached physical demands sheets.
•Willingness to work in adverse weather conditions required.
•Must be available for shift work, overtime, holidays, and weekends.
•Progression through wage scale is contingent upon satisfactory completion of attached checklists.
