About the role
The General Labourer role offers an exceptional opportunity to support the upkeep, functionality, and safety of housing and camp facilities by performing a variety of general labour tasks, including maintenance, repairs, cleaning, and logistical support. This role ensures a clean, safe, and operational environment for all residents and staff.
The position will be on an 5/2/4/3 (9.5 – hour day) roster and will be based residentially in Red Lake, Ontario. We offer a competitive salary, bonus structure and future growth.
Key result areas in this role include:
Facility Maintenance
Perform routine inspections and maintenance of housing units and camp infrastructure.
Attend to and advise on plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and HVAC issues in camp and housing units.
Supervise work of any contractors performing work beyond labourer’s qualifications
Repairs & Upkeep
Respond promptly to repair requests and complete work orders efficiently.
Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition.
Grounds & Common Area Care
Ensure cleanliness and orderliness of common areas, walkways, and outdoor spaces.
Perform seasonal tasks such as snow removal, lawn care, and waste management.
Health & Safety Compliance
Follow all safety protocols and report hazards or incidents.
Support emergency response efforts when needed.
Logistical & Operational Support
Assist with moving furniture, setting up rooms, and transporting supplies.
Support inventory management of maintenance materials and tools.
Provide transportation when required on a flexible schedule
Other duties as assigned.
About you
As a General Labourer, you have a Secondary School Diploma at minimum, those specialized in carpentry will be considered an asset. It is also important that you have/ can demonstrate:
Fall Protection Training is an asset
Confined Space Entry Certification is an asset
Valid Driver’s License (Class G)
Forklift or Equipment Operation Certification is an asset
1–3 years of experience in general maintenance, construction, or facility operations
Experience working in camps, mining sites, or industrial housing is highly desirable
Familiarity with preventative maintenance programs and work order systems
Problem Solving: Ability to assess issues and determine effective solutions quickly
Attention to Detail: Ensures work is completed to a high standard with minimal supervision
Teamwork: Works collaboratively with other staff and departments
Adaptability: Responds well to changing priorities and tasks
Time Management: Manages workload efficiently to meet deadlines
Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical systems; strong mechanical aptitude
Ability to operate hand and power tools safely
Physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects and work in various weather conditions
Strong communication skills for reporting and coordination
Familiarity with safety regulations, procedures, and legislation including the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Electrical Code
Good problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately follow instructions
Effective organizational and prioritization abilities and able to manage multiple priorities
Works well in a fast-paced, dynamic atmosphere
Displays initiative, and works productively with limited supervision
Cooperative, flexible team player willing and capable of working on various work schedules
