Job Description

GENERAL LABORER, KETCHIKAN

Petro Marine Services, Ketchikan, is looking to fill the seasonal position of General Laborer/Yard Maintenance. Tasks will include painting, cleaning the yard, moving materials, and general maintenance as directed. This position is at a fuel plant, and you will be using paint in completion of your tasks. You may also be working on the fuel marina, as needed.

Skills/Knowledge/Ability Required:

Ability to lift up to 75 lbs, using proper lifting techniques.

Ability to reach and bend to paint pipes and other structures, and to push, pull, or bend as needed when conducting general cleaning and maintenance.

Attention to detail and pride in workmanship.

Knowledge to assess and willingness to apply safe work practices, including wearing proper protective equipment when appropriate.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs and 75 pounds occasionally, and push/pull a maximum of 350lbs (with assistance of pallet jack). Operate hand truck with heavy inventory loaded, most typically package lube products such as a pallet of 4-8, 5 gallon containers or one 55 gallon drum of lube oil product. Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time and participate in moderately active physical duties. May require walking primarily on a level surface, occasionally on graded surfaces for periodic periods through out the day. Reaching above shoulder heights, below the waist or lifting as required to move product. Proper lifting techniques required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The performance of this position requires exposure to industrial areas and marine location which requires the use of personal protective equipment such as appropriate foot wear, safety glasses with side shields and mandatory hearing protection. Industrial areas include hazardous chemicals, fumes, and petroleum by-products. For the most part, exposure is ambient room temperatures, lighting and traditional equipment as found in a typical warehouse environment.
