Under the limited direction of the Gas Planning Engineer, will scope and prepare complex hydraulic analysis and designs for natural
gas transmission and distribution systems servicing dispatchable capacity and other system needs. Responsible for identifying
solution options, scoping, planning, and prioritizing projects to improve and maintain the natural gas transmission and distribution
networks within Manitoba. Exercise independent judgment on design alternatives, assess the complexity of projects and consult with
other Hydro departments, customers, and organizations on project designs and scheduling.
- Provide coordination for the dispatchable capacity project including facilitating meetings, schedule creation, cost estimation,
materials procurement/management and securing external approvals; ensuring that project in service dates are met.
- Develop, maintain and use calibrated, natural gas distribution system models using DNV Synergi Gas. Calculate and compile
peak demands, pressure and flow data. Complete 2-way pressure checks, by-pass sizing, and assist in identifying crucial
valves to operate during emergency and non-emergency situations.
- Leverage, analyze and compare multiple data sets to calibrate hydraulic models including gas composition, weather data (e.g.
temperature, wind, precipitation), volumetric flow data, energy reports and operating pressures.
- Monitor system loads and remaining capacity to identify and pace upgrades. Prepare design demand forecasts to scope
- Prepare hydraulic designs, pressure plots and planning analyses for all MERs. Maintain organized, detailed files for all
- Manage, coordinate, and oversee consultant work related to engineering design and technical support, ensuring deliverables
- Support development of material specifications, material take-offs, and procurement coordination for pipe, fittings, and
components to align with design and construction schedules.
- Establish relationships and maintain effective communication with municipal personnel, consultants, utility company
- Provide support for third-party drawing review, construction procedure development and technical information to various
stakeholders on all matters relating to the natural gas system while conforming to relevant standards, codes and regulatory
requirements.
- Prepare written justifications, reports and memos which include background, system description, improvement options/scope,
estimated costs, justification and all technical data necessary to prove a sound business case.
- Possess a two-year diploma in Mechanical or Civil Technology from an institute of recognized standing and a minimum of
MANITOBA HYDRO IS COMMITTED TO DIVERSITY AND EMPLOYMENT EQUITY
three years of direct experience in natural gas distribution design, including hydraulic analysis, data processing, manipulation
and analysis, project coordination, cost estimation, and compliance with industry standards, codes, and regulatory
requirements.
- Proficient with computer applications including DNV Synergi Gas, Power BI, databases, spreadsheets, graphing, pivot tables,
GIS (ESRI or GE Smallworld), AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office.
- Demonstrated experience with pressurized pipeline design and construction standards, engineering drawings, and
underground construction methods and procedures. Familiarity with concepts and terminology related to the construction and
maintenance of natural gas assets.
- Knowledge of pipe materials/characteristics, meters, regulators and material common to a natural gas distribution system.
- Understands and interprets project plans, schematic drawings, layouts and other visual aids to plan and design necessary gas
- Demonstrated ability to communicate technical requirements or concepts effectively both orally and in writing.
- Demonstrated technical knowledge of natural gas specifications, regulatory codes, standards and accepted
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $36.56-$51.98 Hourly,
$70,064.54-$99,613.54 Annually.
