Job Description - Gas Marketer I, II, III, IV

Position Description

Responsible for procuring natural gas supplies and transportation to meet the demands for TEP, UNS Electric and UNS Gas. Responsible for natural gas scheduling activities to optimize Company’s portfolio of transportation and storage assets. Administers the sale and/or release of the company’s gas pipeline transportation rights and excess gas. Maintains business relationships with gas suppliers and natural gas transportation companies.

Responsible for implementing and maintaining natural gas nomination strategies in conjunction with the Companies’ participation in current or future wholesale markets.


Position-Related Responsibilities:

- Trades natural gas in forward, day-ahead, and real-time markets for TEP, UNS Electric and UNS Gas to optimize available transport.

- Performs daily activities including load and resource forecasting, deal execution, and required administration.

- Manages nominations, confirmations, imbalances, and other related activities on various natural gas pipelines and storage facilities.

- Monitors reports, electronic bulletin boards, and interacts with contacts at pipeline companies to track key volume activity and takes corrective action as necessary.

- Monitors and analyzes pipeline curtailments and operational issues to advise the Wholesale Marketing team on issues or concerns regarding potential impacts and alternative solutions.

- Collects market data, performs, and assists other traders with market forecasting and analysis.

- Actively reviews the efficiency of the daily gas nominations and accounting reconciliation activities to ensure that those functions are completed in an optimal manner.

- Responsible for advising the real-time and day-ahead trading desks on the optimized use of pipeline transportation and natural gas storage to meet the reliability needs for TEP, UNS Electric and UNS Gas.

- Interacts with regional utility companies to keep abreast of inter-utility issues and to assess market conditions.

- Communicates between our suppliers and customers to ensure that contractual nomination data is coordinated accurately throughout the delivery chain.

- Responsible for accounting and management of delivery point gas imbalances between plant owners and interstate pipelines.

- Ensures all purchases and sales of natural gas are fully documented and summarized for accounting and billing purposes.

- Assists in the automation of pipeline nomination process.

- Assists back office with invoice reconciliation.

- Monitors interstate pipeline tariffs and rate cases as required.

- Tracks policy and regulatory changes at CAISO and other applicable markets, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and the Arizona Corporation Commission.

- Reviews, develops, and implements new natural gas procedures in conjunction with changes in participating market rules or policies.

- Maintains an awareness and understanding of applicable Federal/State regulations and ensures Risk Management procedures and protocols are followed.

- Performs other functions, job duties, and other Wholesale duties as defined by Supervisor.

- Assists real-time energy traders, as needed.

- Requires monitoring and managing gas nominations, gas schedules, imbalances and system conditions during standard & non-standard business hours including weekends as needed.

- Leverages historical pricing data and market analytics to identify upstream trading opportunities that reduce gas procurement costs and enhance portfolio value.

- Cultivates and maintains strategic relationships with suppliers, counterparties, and pipeline operators to gain market intelligence and uncover optimization opportunities.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Economics, Finance, Accounting, or related field(s) is preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Gas Marketers III and IV must have five or more years of energy trading or scheduling experience or equivalent combination of experience.

- Must have demonstrated electric utility business knowledge and experience.

- Working knowledge of Northern American Energy Standards Board contract standards and ISDA Master Agreement.

- Must have advanced knowledge of economic and technical principles of the North American natural gas markets and applicable pipeline transportation systems.

- Must have strong quantitative, analytical, and computer skills.

- Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written.

- Broad understanding of the utility business including the effects of decisions on the regulatory process.

- Exceptional time management skills, including ability to prioritize, set, and meet deadlines.

- Demonstrated skill in use of personal computer applications (Word, Excel, etc.)

- Working knowledge of the technical principles of electrical generation, natural gas and transmission systems.

- Position requires the ability to work independently, communicate effectively, with emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail.

- Advanced knowledge and understanding of complex energy and natural gas contracts.


Gas Marketer I:

- Completion of two years towards a college degree in Engineering, Economics, Business, or 2 years relevant experience in the utility industry.

- Responsible for gas procurement & scheduling for a single affiliate with guidance from senior personnel.


Gas Marketer II:

- College degree in Engineering, Economics or Business or 4 years relevant experience in the utility industry.

- Demonstrates ability to procure gas & scheduling for a multiple affiliates with guidance from senior personnel.


Gas Marketer III:

- College degree in Engineering, Economics or Business with 2 years’ experience or 6 years relevant experience in the utility industry.

- Five or more years of energy trading or scheduling experience or equivalent combination of experience.

- Demonstrates ability to procure gas & scheduling for all affiliates with limited to no guidance from senior personnel.


Gas Marketer IV:

- College degree in Engineering, Economics or Business with 4 years’ experience or 8 years relevant experience in the utility industry.

- Five or more years of energy trading or scheduling experience or equivalent combination of experience.

- Demonstrates ability to procure gas & scheduling for all affiliates with minimal guidance from senior personnel.

- Responsible for executing forward contracts.

Pay Rate: Salary determined based on candidates experience and qualifications.
