Fleet Services Parts Technician

vacancies for the City of Tacoma and Tacoma Public Utilities for a period of one year. You will play a crucial role in ensuring your department is always ready to respond and serve its citizen by managing the procurement and inventory of parts and services for fleet equipment. The job classification of Fleet Services Parts Technician is classified and represented by WSCCE Local 120.

As part of Fleet Services, the Parts Technician supports the City of Tacoma's transportation requirements by managing a safe, efficient, cost-effective, and diversified fleet of vehicles and construction equipment, including solid waste and landfill equipment, fire apparatus, and power, water, and rail equipment. Tacoma Fire Department:

We protect people, property, and the environment, and professionally and compassionately serve the community. The Fire & Marine Shop is the primary maintenance shop for Tacoma Fire’s apparatus and equipment.

Public Works Department:

We provide essential public services by designing, building, maintaining, and preserving public infrastructure that enhances the quality of life for the people of Tacoma in a fair, responsive, sustainable, and equitable manner. The Fleet Operations facility is the primary maintenance shop for the City's vehicles and equipment. The Fleet Annex shop, located at the City's solid waste facility, maintains the heavy-duty refuse fleet.

Tacoma Power:

We provide electric, water, and rail service to the city of Tacoma, Fircrest, University Place, Fife, parts of Steilacoom, Lakewood, Joint Base Lewis-McChord and unincorporated Pierce County as far south as Roy.

Key Responsibilities

- Locate and procure parts and services for the City of Tacoma Fleet Services storeroom and fleet equipment; contact local vendors and compare price, availability and quality of merchandise.

- Initiate and process orders for parts and services; maintain adequate levels of inventory; establish stock levels and reorder parts.

- Inspect received items for damage or defects; accept or reject goods according to established guidelines.

- Determine future fleet parts inventory and maintain perpetual inventory system; provide inventory control information to the Manager and Accounting as required.

- Process special orders for parts or single source items as needed.

- Compile and maintain records and reports including purchasing history of stock items.

- Train and provide work direction to assigned personnel.

- Oversee the maintenance of the storeroom to assure a clean, orderly and secure operation.

- Issue requested parts to Fleet Service personnel; prepare and maintain various lists.

- Locate and procure various parts and supplies for other City of Tacoma departments as required and authorized.

- Maintain a computerized inventory control program. Perform related duties as assigned.

Pay Details

Hourly Rate: $36.09 - $39.78

Qualifications

An

equivalent combination to

:

Graduation from high school

AND

Two (2) years of experience involving inventory control and purchase of parts and supplies in an automotive or distribution facility.

Licenses, Certificates And Other Requirements

A valid Washington State driver's license

Knowledge & Skills

- Knowledge of vehicle and heavy-duty equipment parts and storage procedures

- Inventory control and stock management, including physical inventory and stock level maintenance

- Oral and written communication, including interpreting and following directions

- Interpersonal skills and the ability to work cooperatively with others

- Basic business math and computer skills (including use of terminals and interpreting print-outs)

- Understanding of procurement procedures and quality verification of goods

- Ability to work independently, meet schedules, and provide direction or training to others
