Job Summary
Lay out, fit, and fabricate metal components to assemble structural forms, such as machinery framework and related components using knowledge of welding techniques, metallurgy, and engineering requirements.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate knowledge, attitude, skills and habits required to perform proceduralized tasks under general supervision and complex, and complex tasks involving the use of theoretical knowledge with little to no supervision.
- Demonstrate skill and dexterity for welding processes of metal.
- Must be able to perform all functions of the basic welder classification.
- Read and interpret blueprints or welding process specifications.
- Use semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal pieces using processes such as GTAW, MCAW, GMAW, FCAW, and SMAW.
- Prepare broken parts for welding by grooving or scarfing surfaces and drilling a hole at ends of cracks.
- Operate manual or flame-cutting equipment when necessary.
- Ability to interpret and follow Weld Procedure Data Sheets (WPDS). Manipulate welding equipment to match parameters specified by the WPDS.
- Weld in flat, horizontal or vertical positions.
- Repair broken or cracked parts and fills holes as needed
- Set up weld machine, including selecting the appropriate fixture and identifying the proper weld schedule.
- Setup equipment and prepare surfaces to be welded and weld parts.
- Identify welding problems to reduce quality errors.
- Position and clamps work pieces together or assembles them in jig or fixture
- Tack accessories to main structures as needed.
- Use and Read tape measures down to 16th of an inch
- Train novice welders as needed.
- Keep work area clean, neat and orderly.
- Perform autonomous maintenance on machines when applicable.
- May perform additional cross-functional duties as assigned by the department supervisor.
- Must have prompt and regular attendance.
Qualifications
Education and/or Experience
One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- CWB Welding Certificates are strict requirement.
- Read and layout parts to complex prints and plan details of working procedure.
- Interpret blueprints, specifications, diagrams or schematics to determine appropriate welding process.
- 3~5 years of prior hands on experience in welding and fabricating parts for jigs, fixtures and automated equipment.
- Use hand tools such as grinders, hammers, screw drivers, vise clamps, fixtures and jigs, etc.
- Must be able to work from verbal instructions, prints, or work orders.
- Basic mathematic and arithmetic reasoning skills.
- Must have good hand-eye coordination and conduct an accurate visual inspection of a complete weld.
- Must be capable of bending, stooping, crawling as well as lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Experience with overhead crane and jib hoist
- Possess a strong mechanical aptitude

- Experience with FCAW, MCAW, SMAW, GTAW, and related technical terms.
- Experience with welding and torch cutting is a must.
