Trans Mountain Corporation operates Canada’s only pipeline system transporting oil products to the West Coast. We deliver approximately 890,000 barrels of petroleum products each day through a dual pipeline system of more than 1,150 kilometres of pipeline in Alberta, British Columbia and Washington state.

The Financial Operations Analyst will be responsible for providing cost control, forecasting, variance analysis, budgetary preparation and accurate reporting for their responsibility centers. The Financial Operations Analyst will be working closely with Project Managers and Operations Supervisors in monitoring costs, supporting regional Directors in assembling budgets aligning to their corporate plans.

This position is based at the Calgary Head Office reporting to the Team Lead, Financial Planning (Operations) in the Finance Department.

Key Responsibilities:

Support the coordination of annual budget preparation, ensuring the timely and accurate provision of financial data to support operational needs.
Collaborate with stakeholders to align budget planning with strategic objectives, including the development and execution of the 5-year corporate plan, driving long-term financial sustainability and organizational growth.
Ensure compliance with financial budget cycle deadlines by coordinating and executing QBR forecast updates in collaboration with internal stakeholders.
Collaborate with Managers and Supervisors to gather and analyze weekly and monthly budget forecast data, ensuring accuracy and alignment with financial objectives.
Maintain and update forecasts in Cognos, performing monthly adjustments and fine-tuning projections to support informed decision-making and operational efficiency.
Lead the preparation of monthly accruals, ensuring accuracy and alignment with financial objectives. Conduct variance analysis against the budget plan and previous QBR forecast for the assigned region or department, identifying cost trends, savings opportunities, and efficiencies to support strategic financial decision-making.
Provide user support for D365, ensuring smooth navigation and utilization of system functionalities for managing operating budgets.
Set up requisitions and Project IDs, facilitating efficient financial tracking and operations.
Lead training of new system users, equipping them with the necessary skills to optimize workflow and enhance budget management capabilities.
Compile and deliver monthly financial reports for the Director and VP, ensuring accuracy, adherence to deadlines, and consistency in formatting aligned with regional budget coordinators.
Provide clear and actionable financial insights to support executive decision-making and strategic planning.
Communicate and report Capital transfers, ensuring transparency and alignment with financial objectives.
Monitor, track, and forecast the mainline repairs Capital budget, proactively identifying and raising awareness of items that should be capitalized, supporting accurate financial planning and resource allocation.
Conduct thorough analysis of budget RC reports to verify accurate allocation of charges to the appropriate accounts, making corrections as necessary.
Track actual costs on budget line items, ensuring financial accuracy and compliance.
Gather invoice data and monitor transactions before they are recorded in the general ledger (GL), performing a final review to confirm correct account coding and data integrity.


Qualifications and Professional Experience:

Post-Secondary Education in Accounting / Commerce / Finance.
3 to 5 years of experience working in preferably in an oil and gas environment.
Budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis experience is preferred.
Experience with ERP and cost management systems; including Power BI is considered an asset.
Recent and extensive experience utilizing the Microsoft Suite of applications including Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point.
Able to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Ability to work well under pressure and handle strict deadlines.
Ability to attend to detail and accuracy and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner in a high-paced, agile and multi-task environment.
Excellent verbal and written communications skills are essential.
Strong interpersonal skills, with an ability to work collaboratively with others.
