Overview:

Pembina Pipeline Corporation’s Calgary office is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Financial Accountant to join the Pipelines Division Operations Financial Services (OFS) team. This position reports to the Supervisor, Operations Accounting and will focus on accounting for the Transmission Pipeline Business Unit (TBU) and the Oil Sand and Heavy Oil Business Unit (OBU), both of which are part of Pembina’s Pipelines Division.

Pembina's transmission pipeline assets have developed through the strategic acquisition of key natural gas, ethane, and condensate transportation infrastructure assets, positioned in some of the most prolific gas producing regions in Western Canada and the United States. Pembina's transmission pipelines provide customers with access to premium markets primarily on a fee-for-service basis under long-term contracts through long-haul pipelines.

In addition, Pembina’s oil sands and heavy oil assets transport heavy and synthetic crude oil produced within Alberta to the Edmonton area and offer associated storage and terminal services. OBU operates one of the largest merchant terminal businesses in Western Canada. These combined assets allow us to provide long-term, dedicated transportation services to our customers.

The Financial Accountant plays a critical role in ensuring accurate and efficient monthly accounting, analysis and reporting of operating expenditure for the TBU and OBU assets. This position is responsible for maintaining compliance with IFRS and regulatory standards, upholding strong internal controls, and fostering collaboration across departments to enhance accounting processes and business outcomes.

The ideal candidate will possess a combination of technical accounting expertise, analytical skills, and strong interpersonal abilities to contribute to both day-to-day operations and long-term organizational goals.

Responsibilities may include but not limited to:


Accounting & Financial Reporting:

+ Prepare and input SAP monthly journal entries (e.g., accruals, recurring and adjusting) in compliance with IFRS standards.
+ Ensure all journal entries are supported by proper documentation for review. + Complete month-end reporting tasks, including balance sheet reconciliations and other financial services requirements. + Understand and manage cost allocations. + Process invoices associated with the business units’ pipelines and terminal services.


Financial Analysis:

+ Assist with monthly and quarterly EBITDA variance analysis, as well as monthly analysis of actuals versus forecasts.
+ Work with the Planning team and Operations to ensure operational activities are accurately explained and reflected in the monthly Scorecards.


Internal Controls, Processes & Compliance:

+ Maintain and enhance internal control processes and documentation.
+ Respond to customer audit requests and provide timely and accurate audit support. + Provide support for complex or large-scale projects to enhance understanding of accounting policies, procedures, and business operations. + Promote process improvements and maintain business process documentation.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate is a team player, who is self-motivated, deadline driven and willing to take initiative. Additional qualifications include:

+ A university degree in business or accounting;
+ Accounting designation is an asset; + Experience in the Oil and Gas midstream industry is an asset; + Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams and departments; + Good understanding of accounting principles and IFRS standards; + Proficiency in financial systems and tools (e.g. SAP or other ERP systems) and MS Office tools (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint); + Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to meet deadlines for monthly activities; + A proactive and adaptable approach to problem-solving, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team; and + Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new tools, technologies, or processes and apply them effectively in a fast-paced environment.

The successful candidate must be legally able to work in the country of the position. Final candidate will be required to undergo Pre-Employment Background Checks including a Criminal Record Check.
