Cornerstone Utility Engineering is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Field Technician to join our team. This role is essential for collecting technical information about electric utility and telecommunication facilities and equipment. Predominantly an outdoor position, the Field Technician will walk between spans of utility poles to capture data supporting utility engineering design projects. This entry-level Planner position offers comprehensive training, making it an excellent opportunity for those looking to start a career in utility engineering.
· Collect field data to support the engineering and design of electrical distribution facilities, including measurements of attachment heights, span distances, and angles.
· Utilize personal protective equipment (PPE), safe driving practices, and situational awareness to ensure accurate and efficient completion of tasks.
· Submit organized, detailed data for each project, including maps, field notes, and digital images.
· Operate and maintain equipment such as digital cameras, measuring tools, and PPE.
· Represent Cornerstone professionally in the field, interacting with customers and stakeholders.
· Communicate effectively with the project leadership team on a daily basis.
· Work independently and safely without direct supervision.
· Enjoy working outdoors in various weather conditions and engage in physically demanding work, including regularly lifting 15 to 20 lbs.
· Ability to follow process specifications and guidelines in a high-quality environment.
· Willingness to travel throughout California, with the ability to work outside in variable terrain and weather conditions.
· Basic computer proficiency, including the ability to read, interpret, and follow GPS maps.
· Strong organizational skills with attention to detail for managing papers, photos, and file systems.
· Comfortable with customer service, capable of explaining the purpose of visits and the work to be completed.
· Ability to assist in the office as needed and attend training sessions for planner development.
· Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
· High work standards with a quality orientation, embracing the company’s core values.
· Valid California driver’s license and the ability to drive a company vehicle.
· Ability to pass a background check and drug screen upon hire.
· Knowledge of pole design, including GO-95 requirements and general safety practices.
$20.00 - $28.00 per hour, based on experience and productivity, plus a per diem rate for overnight trips.
