Description
The Field Technician Level 2 plays an important hands-on role in the safe, efficient installation and maintenance of water utility systems. This individual has gained foundational experience in pipeline tapping and underground utility work and can independently perform standard wet taps, line stops, and valve insertions on small to mid-size pipe diameters. They demonstrate reliability, strong communication, and a willingness to learn advanced techniques while maintaining a focus on safety and quality.
Key Responsibilities
•Perform field work involving installation, repair, and maintenance of water mains and tapping systems
•Independently execute wet taps up to 24" on common pipe types including PVC, DIP, and CIP
•Assist with setup and breakdown of tapping, line-stop, and valve insertion equipment
•Operate service trucks and travel to various job sites as scheduled
•Prepare and complete job work orders, inspection reports, and safety documentation
•Follow all site safety protocols and assist in confined space work (e.g., trench boxes, vaults)
•Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition
•Participate in shop duties as assigned
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Required Skills and Abilities
•Working knowledge of tools and materials used in water utility field work
•Familiarity with pumps, compressors, and tapping equipment
•Ability to read and follow written instructions and diagrams
•Effective communication and teamwork skills
•Basic troubleshooting skills and situational awareness
•Valid driver’s license (clean driving record); Class A CDL preferred
•Ability to work in outdoor and extreme weather conditions
•Willingness to travel regionally or nationally, as required
•Ability to work emergency or on-call shifts when needed
•Working knowledge of OSHA safety standards

Qualifications and Education Requirements
•High school diploma or GED
•2–3 years of construction or utility field experience
•OSHA 10 and forklift certification (or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire)

Mental/Physical Demands and Environmental Factors
•Frequent walking, standing, climbing, kneeling, and bending
•Ability to lift, push, and carry up to 75 lbs unassisted
•Must be able to climb ladders up to 30 feet
•Requires manual dexterity and visual acuity to operate equipment
•Exposure to noise, moving parts, and potentially hazardous materials
•Travel by vehicle or plane; work in physically demanding environments
