Field Service Technician

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

To install, repair, and replace meters and remote meter reading devices. Perform disconnections and reconnections of water services. Retrieve readings using meter reading equipment. Document and complete work orders using the Mobile Field Activity System.

DUTIES:

- Utilize Mobile Field Activity System to complete field orders

- Use Itron reading device/programs to collect meter readings

- Install or Replace Itron reading devices

- Replace, Repair, and Install residential and commercials meters

- Enter customer homes to perform meter and plumbing inspections

- Complete meter maintenance outside for meter pits and confined space vaults

- Inspect new meter pits and complete new meter installations for new construction

- Properly install and inspect meter seals and tampering tags

- Inspect new services for customers with private wells

- Perform service disconnection and reconnections

- Complete shutdowns and reconnections of larger services for maintenance

- Perform service audits for new and existing properties

- Inspect and report any theft of services to Supervisor

- Locate, paint, replace curb stop and meter pit lids

- Use the Arc GIS system to locate properties and valve boxes

- Communicate with Field Services Dispatcher and Supervisors

- Provide exceptional customer service while interacting with customers

- Distribute customer surveys and distribute SLPP pamphlets to customers

- Advise customers and contractors with defective piping/plumbing issues

- Provide back-up coverage for confined space technician as needed

- Respond to emergency calls received by base operator after hours

- Perform weekly & weekend on-call duty on a rotating basis

- Maintain company assigned equipment, tools, and vehicle

- Update and maintain timesheets daily

- Check company email daily

- Deliver mail to the post office as needed

- Parking vehicles by backing into spaces

- Using two-way radio to keep connected with base throughout day

- Perform functions of the flag

- Adhere to all safety rules and procedures

- Perform any and all other appropriate functions as required

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: High School graduate. Must possess valid driver's license with good driving record. Mechanically inclined with general knowledge of plumbing, piping and water systems.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

The following physical activities are required including, but not limited to, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, and lifting to perform meter installations. Speaking, hearing, reading and writing are necessary to effectively communicate with customers and other employees and to read customer notifications. The ability to detect bad odors in meter pits is required. Visual acuity is required for installing meters and reading devices. The level of learning ability required is limited to simple tasks which are clear-cut and directly related.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:

Requires ability to exert up to 150 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT:

Job requires exposure to outside environmental conditions such as extreme heat and cold along with exposure to fumes, odors, dusts, gases and electrical current. Sometimes requires use of a respirator or other breathing apparatus.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $23.00 - $24.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
