About The Role
The Field Operations & Geospatial Solutions Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating field survey operations while playing a strategic role in developing innovative solutions to complex spatial and geospatial challenges. This position not only ensures the accurate collection and processing of data but also actively contributes to the design and implementation of new methodologies, tools, and workflows that support broader project goals and organizational growth. The role requires a dynamic individual capable of both managing teams and engineering custom solutions in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
Key Responsibilities
Development and Solutions Engineering:
•Identify opportunities for improving existing survey methodologies, data processing pipelines, and geospatial data integration.
•Collaborate with internal teams (engineering, software development, data science) to conceptualize and implement custom tools and processes that enhance field data collection and analysis.
•Pilot new technologies and platforms (e.g., AI-assisted data classification, custom API integrations, real-time data streaming) to improve service delivery and reporting accuracy.
•Lead or contribute to research & development initiatives for new service offerings within the survey and geospatial domain.
•Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends, integrating relevant advancements into operational practices. o
•Work closely with clients to understand unique project challenges and deliver customized technical solutions and prototypes.
Supervision and Leadership:
•Lead and supervise a diverse team including GPR Technicians, Survey Technicians, UAS Pilots, and Field Survey Data Processing Analysts.
•Provide training, guidance, and performance evaluations to ensure team efficiency and development.
•Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, encouraging professional growth and continuous learning.
•Demonstrate a hands-on leadership approach by actively participating in field activities, showcasing the lead by example mentality.
Field Operations Management:
•Plan, organize, and coordinate field survey activities to meet project requirements and deadlines. o
•Ensure the accurate collection of survey data using traditional and modern survey equipment (e.g., Cameras, GPS, UAVs, GPR).
•Monitor and maintain equipment, ensuring it is in good working condition and calibrated regularly.
•Conduct pre-job briefings and site safety checks, ensuring all safety protocols are followed.
•Continuously evaluate field workflows for efficiency gains, leveraging automation, scripting, or novel survey configurations.
Data Management and Quality Control:
•Oversee the processing and quality assurance of collected survey data, including LiDAR, GPR, thermal imagery, and other field data.
•Ensure the integrity and accuracy of data through thorough quality control checks and validation processes.
•Manage and organize GIS datasets, ensuring high data integrity and usability for both field and office applications.
Communication and Client Interaction:
•Communicate effectively with colleagues, clients, and other stakeholders to determine project scope, limitations, and deliverables.
•Document work concisely and accurately using standard methods, and provide detailed reports and recommendations based on collected data.
•Present and explain innovative technical solutions to clients in a consultative manner, supporting business development and proposal writing.
Administrative and Operational Support:
•Support fleet logistics, including proactive maintenance scheduling and incident tracking.
•Assist with inventory control of survey equipment, ensuring operational readiness and compliance.
•Provide high-level administrative support, including strategic document management and coordination of high-priority meetings.
Additional Responsibilities:
•Perform all tasks related to the survey department as directed by the superintendent, ensuring comprehensive support and execution of departmental
functions.
Key Qualifications
Education:
•Associate degree in Geomatics, Surveying, Geography, Civil Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent professional experience.
•Strong knowledge in Geospatial technology. o
•Part 107 Certification and/or knowledge in aerospace.
Technical Skills:
•Extensive expertise in LiDAR data processing and understanding of LAS file formats.
•Proficiency in GIS applications and integration between various program formats.
•Strong knowledge of T&D infrastructure, including power lines, poles, and related equipment.
•Ability to operate and understand various survey and data collection equipment, including UAVs, GPR, and thermal sensors.
Operational Management:
•Experience in operational scheduling, fleet management, and survey equipment inventory management. o
•Ability to work long hours in diverse weather conditions and travel frequently as required.
Software Proficiency:
•Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Pro, and other relevant software.
•Experience with data integration tools and platforms and understanding of API usage for system integration.
Communication:
•Superior interpersonal and communication skills, with extensive experience in client-facing roles and strategic stakeholder engagement.
Personal Attributes:
•Highly organized, self-motivated, and capable of leading teams and driving projects to successful completion.
•Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions under pressure. o
