Purpose
Introduction to administrative, technical, and management techniques to ensure the successful and timely completion of multiple engineering projects. The Intern Field Engineer supports the execution of construction, engineering, or infrastructure projects by assisting with on-site field activities, coordinating with project teams, and ensuring work is performed to quality, safety, and schedule standards. This role provides hands-on exposure to field operations, helping the intern develop foundational engineering, problem-solving, and project management skills essential for a future career in the field.
Responsibilities
Leadership and Direction
•Perform work under direct supervision of an experienced professional and follow established procedures and clearly defined processes.
At The Operational And Company Level
•Interact with multiple departments and peers within the organization and participate in intern program learning and development opportunities.
Do the Work
•Aid in communication with clients, contractors, field personnel, engineering and planning staff on engineering matters.
•Work side by side with the project team on your specialty in water/wastewater projects to improve water resources of our communities.
•Obtain field measurements, collect and verify survey data and assist with preliminary construction drawings.
•Use various computer programs to assist lead engineers in design and construction drawings.
•Visit construction sites to take measurements, gather data, and address questions of the contractor on behalf of the supervising civil engineer
•Verify the work of contractors for accuracy, proper work methods, techniques and compliance with applicable standards and specifications.
•Observe work during progress and upon completion for conformance to plans and specifications.
•Prepare inspection reports as required. Maintain files and reports regarding inspection and plan check activities and findings.

Qualifications
•High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent commensurate experience required.
•Enrolled in a college degree program pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering or related field, and/or Associate’s degree or certification program in Land Surveying.
•Must be at least 18 years old.
•At least one (1) year of practical work experience.
•Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Physical Demands and Working Environment
•Partly indoor professional office environment which may include bright/dim light, noise, fumes, odors, and traffic.
•Mobility around an office environment.
•Frequent and prolonged use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.
•Primarily outdoor work environment which may include adverse weather conditions, varying temperatures, excessive noise, and/or potential hazards.
•Mobility around a job/construction site to include walking, bending, crawling, climbing, squatting, or kneeling and wearing of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
•Frequent and prolonged use of data collection equipment, necessitating walking the assigned study area to complete data collection over the course of several hours.
•Primarily local travel during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be required according to the needs of the business. All travel accompanied by one or more Bowman staff members.
•Occasional lifting or carrying up to 50 pounds.
•Occasional pushing or pulling up to 50 pounds.
•Occasional reaching outward or above shoulder.
Salary and eligible variable compensation (if any) commensurate with experience. Range $18.00/hr - $25.00/hr.
