Fellow Nuclear Safety Engineer (Remote)

Edgewater Technical Associates is seeking qualified candidates for a Fellow Nuclear Safety Engineer (Remote) opportunity to support the Savannah River Site.

Fellow Nuclear Safety Engineer-

Duties:

- Incorporate advanced technical practices and a variety of complex features such as complicated technical requirements, application of new or special materials or processes and difficult coordination or oversight requirements into problem solving and program planning.

- Support the development, review, and implementation of nuclear safety documentation for various facilities (H-Canyon, HB-Line, 235-F, F/H Lab, FCC, etc..) at the Savannah River Site.

- Provide technical assistance in developing, writing, maintaining, and reviewing nuclear safety documents and analyses, technical safety requirements (TSR), limited condition of operations (LCO) and related technical support documentation.

- Ensure that the developed nuclear safety documentation complies with requirements and as necessary, applicable controls are implemented in field procedures.

- Conduct Nuclear Safety Program assessments and maintain program manuals.

- Understand Accident Analysis, unreviewed safety question (USQ), Safety Basis Regulatory Authority (SBRA), and Consolidated Hazards Analysis Process (CHAP).

- Apply technical experience in field of specialization or broad-based experience in multiple technical fields and use other technical resources within the company to resolve complex problems.

- Incorporate advanced technical practices and a variety of complex features such as complicated technical requirements, application of new or special materials or processes and difficult coordination or oversight requirements into problem solving and problem planning.

- Provide leadership in determining solutions to complex problems and be recognized as having expertise in a functional area(s) of technical expertise.

- Develop solutions to complex technical problems in fields of expertise.

- Keep informed on technical needs within the company and technical trends in area of expertise in the external world.

- Be aware of capabilities of the work group and needs of its customers.

- Identify technical programs which can be carried out with little guidance and take the initiative to accomplish them.

- Lead task teams to develop solutions to more complex problems.

- Prepare plans including schedules, budgets and personnel requirements for solving major technical tasks identified by management.

- Develop schedules, monitor progress, monitor expenditures of budget and review quality of work performed.

- Include research, development, testing, quality assurance requirements.

- Communicate the results and objectives verbally and in manuscript form to customers, colleagues, managers and oversight groups.

- Prepare reports for external publication.

Education/Yrs. Of Experience:

- An advanced degree and experience, a Ph. D degree and about 10 years' experience OR a MS degree and 12 years' experience OR a BS degree and approximately 15 years' experience [Nuclear Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Chemistry]

Skills/Experience:

- Considered an internal expert in area of expertise.

- Previous experience with the use and implementation of 10 CFR 830, DOE O 413.3, DOE O 420.1, DOE STDs 3009, 1186, 1189 and related directives and standards is required.

- Can solve complex problems in field.

- Contributes to advancing knowledge in field of expertise through various avenues such as internal and external publications and professional society presentations.

- Must demonstrate proficiency in developing and providing safety basis inputs to facility/project schedules, while meeting deadlines and budgets.

- Must perform work safely and be proficient in performing Nuclear Safety Program assessments.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Fifteen years of relevant experience in developing, reviewing, and maintaining safety basis documents and safety basis support documents.

- Demonstrated previous SRS nuclear safety engineering experience.

- Has previous Lead experience in developing safety basis documentation.

- Possessed an active DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two (2) years.

Other Job Requirements:

- Must be a U.S. Citizen

- As needed to come onsite

- Able to obtain and maintain a DOE “Q” security clearance
