The main function of an apprentice is to learn the plumbing trade under the care of a Licensed Plumber. They will receive on-the-job training in coordination with the classes taken at a trade school. The goal is to combine the training and be able to work independently and provide professional plumbing and drain cleaning services. Employees are paid an hourly training rate and moved to commission when drain-cleaning training is complete.
Key Responsibilities
•Ensures Health and Safety is the number one goal by following policies, processes, and acting in a safe manner at all time
•Performs non-emergency and emergency response activities
•Be available for on-call dispatch on a rotating basis
•Performs labor intensive activities in all weather conditions throughout the shift
•Works in atmospheres with low clearances, confined spaces and at heights
•Drives a company vehicle in a safe and responsible manner
•Installs pipe assemblies, fittings, valves, appliances such as dishwashers, water heaters, stoves, sinks, tubs and toilets using power tools
•Measures, cuts, threads and bends pipe to required angels using tools such as pipe-threading machines and pipe cutters
•Studies building plans and inspects them to assess material and equipment needs
•Diagnoses problems and/or failures in plumbing systems (residential and commercial)
•Tests for leaks in new and repaired systems with compressed air and/or water to ensure that items are functional and in safe working condition
•Installs/maintains/repairs of various water and gas systems, pipes and fittings, and various items. systems and/or components (e.g. toilets, sinks, vents, faucets, sewer lines, vacuum breakers, water heaters, water softeners, garbage disposals, etc.).
•Performs other tasks as requested
