I.F. Metalworks is a custom manufacturer specializing in high quality fabricated metal products for markets from architectural/structural to military/aerospace and everywhere in between. Work is primarily one-off/prototype and short-run production in nature depending on active jobs. This is a first shift, full-time, permanent position. We are seeking a highly motivated person who adapts well to change, takes pride in quality workmanship, and seek the daily challenge of working on custom projects for customers who expect the best. This position ABSOLUTELY REQUIRES familiarity with architectural drawings. Several years working with architectural drawings is required.
The assistant estimator is responsible for developing cost estimates and calculating possible costs and gains of construction projects. You will collect and analyze data according to a series of useful variables. The goal is to provide the company accurate information that will help in operations and strategic planning.
-Looking at BID opportunities to determine if it is a potential fit for our company and if so review with the Vice President
· Reviews construction documents and understands scope of work to bid.
· Prepares cost analysis in computer by recapitulating material, labor, equipment, subcontractor and overhead costs incurred in the installation of items.
· Where predetermined standard(s) are not available, makes an estimate.
· Informs the immediate supervisor of any observed inaccuracies or omissions in quoted items or computer database.
· Develops and maintains resource information on products, vendors, subcontractors, government requirements, etc.
· Foster relationships with key vendors (subcontractors, architects, etc.)
-Self starter/can keep self busy without a lot of supervision
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment, phones, computers , copy machine etc. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet however in a shared office with at least 1 to 2 other people which can mean being able to work without others having a conversation derailing you.
This is a full-time position. Occasional overtime that could include weekend hours if work is behind and a BID has a deadline. This should be rare if at all if job is being done efficiently .
No travel is expected for this position unless there is a need for a site visit
· Basic understanding of accounting and project management concepts.
· Three years of related experience or training.
2. Knowledge of software such as Bluebeam & AutoCAD
