Position Description

- Responsible for the operation of all types of light and numerous types of heavy equipment in conjunction with the operation, maintenance and construction of Santee Cooper's generation station, transmission system, dams, dikes and other properties utilizing a variety of skilled tasks.

- Individual must be knowledgeable of standard construction concepts, practices, and procedures for a variety of site conditions.

- This position must be available to work out of town on a continuous basis and be on 24 hours on-call status.

Essential Job Tasks

- Exhibits proficiency in the operations of all types of light and heavy equipment (such as: large excavators, large dozers, motor graders, farm tractors, dump trucks, skid steers, forklifts, lull forklifts, slope mowers, rubber tire backhoes and loaders).

- Proficient equipment operation shall support maintenance activities and new construction projects, such as site preparation, roads, buildings, substations, waterlines, retention ponds, industrial parks or any general site development work.

- May require construction maintenance and activities other than equipment operation.

- Transport bulk materials such as soil, rock, road base materials, and ash in support of various construction and operation needs.

- May lead and direct the work of others, in the absence of supervision.

- Relies heavily upon judgement and experience to plan and accomplish construction goals.

- May order materials for construction projects.

- Promote safety and instructs other junior equipment operators in general maintenance and equipment operation.

- Load and transport heavy and light equipment using tractor trailer lowboys or tag-a-long trailers in accordance with DOT weight permits.

- The general understanding and ability to establish basic vertical grades and elevations for construction site work is required.

- Interpretation of construction plans and specs may be required.

- Performs maintenance and repair activities associated with Santee Cooper's dikes and dams (French drains, slides and slope stabilization).

- Perform general fabrication and welding.

- Apply herbicides using appropriate equipment and techniques to control unwanted vegetation in civil projects.

- Maintain accurate records of herbicide usage, application rates, and areas treated for reporting and regulatory compliance purposes.

Position Requirements

- - Will Consider Equipment Operator II

Equipment Operator II - High School Diploma/GED +2 years experience required.

- Must be able to obtain an unrestricted (except P) Class A Commercial Driver's license with appropriate endorsements within six months from date of hire.

- Utilizes GPS equipment and controls on heavy construction equipment.

- Herbicide applicator's license required within 6 months of hire date.

Compensation Information

$19.45 - 24.30 (min.-mid.)

Equipment Operator III - High School Diploma/GED +5 years experience required.

- Must be able to obtain an unrestricted (except P) Class A Commercial Driver's license with appropriate endorsements within six months from date of hire.

- Utilizes GPS equipment and controls on heavy construction equipment.

- Herbicide applicator's license required within 6 months of hire date.

Compensation Information

$26.45 - 33.05 (min.-mid.)
