SUMMARY OF POSITION
An Equipment Operator is responsible for operating heavy machinery and equipment used in construction projects, such as excavators, backhoes and graders. The operator ensures the safe and efficient operation of equipment while assisting in the construction, maintenance, and repair of infrastructure and job sites.
TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
•Operates heavy machinery to perform tasks such as digging, loading, grading and transporting materials
•Performs routine maintenance and inspections of equipment to ensure safety and functionality
•Follows project blueprints, specifications, and instructions from foreman
•Works collaboratively with construction crews and site supervisors to meet project goals and deadlines
•Adheres to all safety regulations and procedures
•Monitors and reports any equipment malfunctions or unsafe working conditions
•Assists with manual labor tasks when equipment is not in use
•Maintains accurate logs of daily activities, equipment usage and maintenance
•Follows all company rules, regulations, policies, guidelines, etc.
REQUIREMENTS
•Must be at least 18 years of age
•Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation and punctuality
•Proven experience operating relevant equipment
•Knowledge of general construction processes
•Ability to read blueprints, schematics and construction plans
•Strong understanding of safety protocols and regulations
•Must be able to work in outdoor environments, including prolonged walking or standing on various terrain in a wide range of weather conditions
•Must be self-motivated and able to work independently and meet necessary deadlines
•Commitment to adhering to safety protocols and contributing to a safe job site environment
WORK ENVIORMENT
•Outdoor job sites in various weather conditions
•May involve working around heavy equipment and loud noise
•Requires standing, kneeling, bending, and lifting heavy materials for extended periods
•May require overtime or weekend work depending on project deadline
•Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) required
