Job Title: Equipment Manager

Position Overview:
We are seeking a proactive and dedicated Equipment Manager to oversee the maintenance, logistics, and performance of our heavy equipment fleet in support of asphalt paving, grading, excavation, and transportation projects. This role is essential in maintaining operational efficiency, safety standards, and the continued development of both the team and the company. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator and problem solver with hands-on mechanical knowledge and a vested interest in the company’s success.
Key Responsibilities:
•Fleet Management & Equipment Readiness
+ Oversee all maintenance and repair of equipment in both the shop and on project sites.
+ Ensure all equipment is inspected at least annually and calibrated according to manufacturer or regulatory standards.
+ Establish and manage preventative maintenance schedules and warranty-compliant service intervals.
+ Ensure idle equipment is in ready status and that the maintenance shop remains functional, clean, and well-organized.
+ Manage the inbound and outbound inspection process.
+ Purchase and sell new or used equipment as directed by management.
+ Maintain safety records and checklists on all equipment.
•Field and Operational Support
+ Visit job sites regularly to support field operations and ensure proper equipment availability and functionality.
+ Motivate and support field employees by providing encouragement and problem-solving assistance.
+ Serve as a key liaison between the shop, field crews, vendors, subcontractors, and internal divisions.
+ Identify sources for equipment maintenance, fueling, repair, and spare parts on job sites.
•Team Leadership & Development
+ Supervise and evaluate maintenance shop staff and mechanics.
+ Monitor employee performance, provide feedback, and coach or counsel as needed.
+ Review employee training and maintain a skilled and safety-conscious workforce.
+ Establish productivity expectations and track mechanic performance and activity.
•Continuous Improvement & Compliance
+ Revise maintenance and shop procedures to identify efficiency issues and recommend improvements.
+ Enforce strict adherence to all health and safety standards.
+ Build and maintain positive working relationships with customers, vendors, subcontractors, and internal teams.
+ Actively support a culture of safety, collaboration, and accountability throughout the company.
Qualifications:
Required:
•5+ years of successful experience managing heavy equipment, preferably in the asphalt, excavation, or earthwork industries
•Strong knowledge of heavy equipment diagnostics, diesel engines, hydraulics, and fleet management
•Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
•High level of organization, reliability, and attention to detail
•Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate teams
•Working knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and EPA compliance requirements
•Proficiency in maintenance tracking software and Microsoft Office
Preferred:
•Experience supporting excavation or earthwork projects
•Strong negotiation and customer relationship skills
•Analytical mindset with ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
•CDL license and/or vocational training in heavy equipment repair
•Bilingual (English/Spanish)
Work Environment:
•Field visits, shop supervision, and office-based administrative work
•Must be able to inspect and operate heavy equipment in varying outdoor conditions
•Travel between job sites and company locations as needed
