Environmental Scientist – Aquatic Invasive Species

Overview

We are seeking a Contingent Worker to support an Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Program. This role involves stakeholder engagement, coordination with state and federal partners, public education and outreach, and participation in biological field sampling activities. The ideal candidate is an excellent communicator with experience in environmental or biological fieldwork.

Responsibilities

- Review and provide feedback on assigned documents and submittals.

- Draft internal policies and procedures related to program tasks.

- Represent the organization in meetings with internal teams and external stakeholders.

- Attend stakeholder meetings and provide informed input.

- Conduct scheduled site visits to active projects and follow up on action items.

- Schedule and coordinate meetings with internal and external stakeholders.

- Assist in developing and delivering public education initiatives related to invasive species.

- Coordinate site visits and work permit applications for external partners.

- Plan and conduct field sampling activities, including invasive species monitoring, eDNA collection, and water sampling.

- Provide coverage for staff absences and support ongoing AIS program functions as needed.

- Collaborate with Environmental Health & Safety representatives to support emergent work and coverage needs.

- Ensure compliance with organizational processes and support the adoption of EHS initiatives.

- Travel within the region and state as required.

Skills & Qualifications

- Excellent written and public speaking skills; comfortable presenting to large audiences.

- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with managers, operations staff, and external stakeholders.

- Proficient with Microsoft 365 tools (Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint).

- Experience with GIS is preferred.

- Ability to communicate scientific information clearly to diverse audiences.

- Experience conducting biological field sampling (plant/animal surveys, water testing, etc.), coordinating fieldwork, and/or managing aquatic invasive species.

- Experience with data analysis is a plus.

Education & Experience

- Bachelor’s degree in Ecology, Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field.

- Minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience. Equivalent experience gained during a graduate program may be considered.

Pay: $38.00 - $42.00 per hour

Expected hours: 37.50 per week
