The environmental leader for Galveston Bay Refinery oversees significant environmental risks and manages programs refinery-wide. This position requires strong technical expertise, communication abilities, business insight, and leadership skills to effectively influence key internal stakeholders such as the Organization’s Environmental or Component leadership team, as well as external groups like regulatory agencies and industry trade organizations.
- Oversees the implementation and overall management systems for all environmental programs to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies.
- Manages direct reports by providing technical guidance, training, and mentoring on environmental programs to ensure compliance, teamwork, and knowledge management transfer.
- Responsible for implementation of auditing programs, development of corrective actions, and ensuring actions are timely closed, including corporate auditing programs and/or any state or federal audit.
- Develops goals and long-term strategic environmental plans for the refinery.
- Interacts with regulatory agencies during inspections, meetings, or other avenues in an open and transparent way to resolve compliance matters, provide advocacy, or perform necessary permitting work.
- Develops compliance strategies for environmental regulations, project permitting activities, emerging regulations. Identifies areas in which capital improvements may be needed to achieve, restore, or enhance compliance.
- Manage and develops annual and projected budgets for the Environmental Department.
- Responsible for providing support to the Operations, Engineering, Technical Services and Maintenance groups on environmental compliance.
- Provides updates on environmental issues and initiatives to management, as necessary.
- May support business development opportunities.
- Engage in industry and trade organizations and regulatory agency committees related to environmental compliance. Act on behalf of the refinery, in discussions and negotiations with the state environmental agencies.
- Engage openly and transparently with community organizations to foster collaborative relationships.
- Bachelor’s degree required in Heath, Environmental, Safety related field, engineering, or advanced degree.
- 8 years of relevant experience.
- Environmental Petrochemical experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) and Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) permitting.
