Operations Services, Inc. established services provider in the water treatment services market. We manage, operate, and develop solutions for municipal, commercial and industrial clients in Michigan and several other states within the US. We provide management services for utilities, and specialized water treatment plants, industrial pretreatment, private developer services and billing services. We employ a small team of people at four locations in Michigan and Illinois. This position is based in Waterford Township, Michigan.
Responsible for receiving samples from treatment plants or distribution systems, performing routine water quality analyses, sample custody, data entry and recordkeeping. Review and respond to water quality complaints and inquiries. Manage the laboratory and EGLE requirements and QA/QC.
Position is 40 hours a week Monday – Friday. Some weekend work may be required to read or set samples.

- Perform a variety of administrative tasks including but not limited to data entry, preparing reports, timekeeping for other employees, generating accurate invoices, and interacting with clients via in person, by phone and/or email.
- Maintains a clean and orderly working environment in the lab at all times.
- Maintains records, inventory supply lists, and log entries.
- Investigates and resolves customer problems and complaints as needed.
- Performs desired testing on water and wastewater samples to determine if water meets EGLE regulations.
- Accurate interpretation and documentation of lab test results.
- Operates and/or directs the use of select lab equipment.
- Skilled in use of required personal protective equipment for basic lab testing
- Thorough knowledge of EGLE’s Standard Operating Procedures and Safety Practices.
- Collect and analyze plant, field and regulatory samples following approved methodology.
- Analyze results, record data and identify process control/regulatory problems.
- Prepare reagents/standards, maintain log sheets, clean glassware and maintain laboratory in clean and orderly condition.
- Maintain QA/QC on lab equipment and adjust continuous process control monitors.
Performs a variety of administrative and laboratory testing tasks. This role may require extended periods of computer work OR lab work depending on the day. The chosen candidate must be able to work independently and be comfortable flexing between administrative and laboratory tasks throughout the day. The ability to maintain an exceptionally clean and organized working area in the lab is required. Uses and cares for lab equipment provided by the Company. Performs inventory of basic lab supplies and reorders as needed to maintain minimum stock requirements. Receives samples while maintaining proper chain of custody and performs chemical and/or water quality tests to assure water purity. Investigates and resolves customer service requests relating to the Company Projects. Performs other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in applied science/chemistry.
- 5 years of laboratory experience, specifically in water and wastewater testing.
- Experience with State of Michigan/EGLE requirements and laboratory inspections
- Previous professional administrative experience is highly preferred.
- Possession of a valid State of Michigan Driver’s License.
- Proficiency with current computer software systems, including email, calendar programs, job specific software, and customer service systems preferred or within the first six months of employment.
- The desired candidate will possess a high degree of organizational skills as well as time management skills.
- Ability to accomplish tasks by set deadlines with little direction is a must.
- Subject to extended periods standing
- Physical strength and agility sufficient to stand or sit for extended periods
- Frequent bending, stooping, standing, pulling, pushing, lifting, or reaching may be required at times.
- Subject to extended periods wearing PPE including face masks, gloves or other lab attire.
- Prolonged periods of concentration such as proof reading, figure work, drawing, reading procedures, etc.
- Frequent contact with the public; must be able to effectively communicate verbally and demonstrate good customer relations.
- Frequently completes written technical forms; must be able to effectively communicate in writing.

Compensation is competitive and based experience and qualifications.
