Key Areas of Responsibility
The Environment Compliance Engineer will be required to partner with the business in achieving company objectives by leading and facilitating the development, delivery, implementation, measurement, and maintenance of EDL’s NA environmental compliance programs and systems with an emphasis on multimedia areas of the program. Success will be dependent on the ability to engage at the site level and drive the environmental compliance culture and performance within the organization.
•Work in conjunction with the Project Delivery and Operations teams to develop and implement plans/schedules related to environmental permitting, compliance, and testing to ensure environmental aspects of EDL’s NA operations are supported.
•Waste and chemical program development and permitting/reporting (primary).
•Tank/SPCC program development, implementation, and management (primary).
•Develop and manage waste management program for each facility (primary).
•Perform waste evaluations and ensure proper waste categorization and disposal (primary).
•Monitor and implement compliance related meetings and monitor action items to ensure they are followed up and closed out, as required.
•Compliance Database tracking/management.
•Carry out audits, compliance inspections, compliance observations as required and support timely close out of actions.
•Assist with pipeline compliance program development, implementation, and management.
•Emissions testing preparation, scheduling, and contract management (support).
•Landfill gas sampling coordination and oversight for compliance monitoring.
•Air permit development and modifications/ RNG facility permitting (support).
•Prepare/review waste/chemical/tank compliance reports (primary) and air reports (support).
•Facilitate compliance report submittals.
•Environmental consultant liaison.
•Local, state, and federal regulatory contact liaison (support).
•Notice of Violation management (primary).
•Monitor and review company training matrices and conduct environmental compliance or permit training where and when required.
•Take appropriate action to correct unsafe and non-compliant work conditions and behaviors.
•Provide leadership and/or coaching to other teams within EDL.
•Support and comply with Company policies and procedures, as advised and documented in the Company’s most recent employment policies.
•Assist in the preparation and maintenance of facility environmental binders.
•Promote the reporting of all environmental incidents and assist in identification of remedial action . Take ownership of timely close out actions with Company management.
•Collect, distribute, and review compliance data.
•Review or compile compliance data for compliance reports, typically monthly.
•Actively ensure own health and safety and the health and safety of others through understanding and implementing workplace health and safety obligations.
•Any other duties appropriate to the level and responsibility of the position, as required.

•Ability to understand the diversity and technical nature of the business and be able to develop and implement systems and procedures that comply with legislation and are practical for use in the field.
•Practical approach to the successful application of risk management principles to provide solutions for the control of compliance risks.
•Strives for continual improvement of the program and their own skills/knowledge.
•Ability to lead and perform in a dynamic and rapidly changing environment.
•High level of ability to record and analyze data using Excel and other Microsoft products.
•Self-starter with excellent time management and organizational skills.
•Ability to self-manage with little oversight.
•Excellent written and interpersonal skills. Ability to effectively communicate with a variety of groups ranging from senior management to non-technical facility staff is crucial.
•Approachable, proactive, professional, and open to feedback (highly confidential, discreet, ethical, and tactful).
•High level of investigative skills and attention to details.
•Ability to work autonomously or as part of a team.
•Willingness and ability to travel, including Canada.
Qualifications And Experience
•Typically requires a bachelor’s and master’s degree, at least 5 years of experience in compliance, preferably with multi-site organizations in the Power Generation or Utility industry.
•Strong understanding of current environmental legislation and associated standards, codes, and practices.
•Knowledge & understanding of environmental issues is critical. Deep understanding of waste, chemical, tank, and SPCC regulatory requirements desired.
•Experience leading program evaluation and development and compliance initiatives with little oversight.
•Experience managing industrial hazards, SDS systems, and compliance file management.
•Experience in auditing compliance programs.
•Self-servicing in the use of IT with proficiency in Microsoft Office products. Attention to detail and the ability to compile clear, concise, and professional documents and reports.
•Willingness to undertake training and achieve qualifications to ensure compliance and regulatory requirements at the discretion and expense of EDL.
•Current driver's license required.
