We have an immediate opening for a Prep-Technician. This is an entry level position in the shop of a laboratory that analyzes mostly coal. Full-time position does include medical benefits, 401K and paid vacation, after a period of time. Normal business hours for the lab are Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm. This position does require the employee to arrive prior to normal lab hours, with a normal shift starting between 3am-6 am, depending on workload. Daily workload will fluctuate from day to day, depending on the number of samples received, with the potential for overtime.
We're looking for someone who is reliable and will show up when they're scheduled to work. As mentioned below, we work with coal, which means this is a dirty job and work environment.
When working in a lab, paying attention to details is very important. We're also looking for someone that can follow verbal and written instructions, someone who doesn't take short cuts and will do the job right the first time.
The Prep Tech/Shop Hand-conducts preliminary sample preparation, which includes but is not limited to the following-
•Assists with picking up daily sample shipment from UPS and preparing sample paperwork to be logged-in. This includes documenting sample ID's, customer information, date received, sample weight, etc.
•Working with heavy equipment while being exposed to loud sounds. Hearing protection is provided.
•Utilizing shop equipment to process coal samples, which includes crushing and drying the samples.
•Checking and documenting certain sample and equipment temperatures.
•General shop maintenance-sweeping, maintaining shop area, performing required monthly/quarterly equipment checks and repairs, etc.

•Education/Experience: No prior experience necessary, training will be provided. High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
•Language Skills: Ability to comprehend simple verbal and written instructions. Ability to document test results, either written or electronically. Ability to effectively present information to supervisors, other technicians and auditors.
•Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform arithmetic in various units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent. Ability to draw and interpret graphical information.
•Reasoning Ability: Ability to detect deviations from acceptable criteria. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carryout written and oral instructions. Ability to apply critical thinking to standardized situations where company precedent/ legal precedent apply.
•Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to stand for long periods of time, walk, sit, climb and lift and/or move objects of various weights. Employee should be able to lift 50-75 lbs.
•Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, pressurized gases, outside weather conditions, risk of electrical shock, vibration and noise exposure. Safety masks, goggles, hearing protection and other PPE are provided and required to be worn while the employee is preforming certain tasks.
