Title: Engineering Manager of Emerging Technology Company: Tampa Electric Company State and City: Florida - Tampa Shift: 8 Hr. X 5 Days
The Engineering Manager will lead a multi-disciplinary team of engineers to support the design, equipment procurement, construction and commissioning of Emerging Technology Major Projects.
This position will function as the Engineering Manager for Emerging Technologies’ Major Projects at Tampa Electric’s Power Stations. Projects include major generation expansion projects with a focus on improving fuel efficiency, emissions compliance and dual-fuel reliability.
These projects include a detailed engineering phase and a field engineering phase. The detailed engineering will be performed with an Engineering Firm. During the detailed engineering phase, the engineer will be required to travel to the Engineering Firm offices (approx. 2 trips per month, 3-5 days per trip). Temporary relocation is preferred but not required. The field engineering phase will require the engineer to work at various Tampa Electric Power Stations during construction and commissioning of the new equipment.
The Emerging Technology department leads the evaluation, development, and execution of innovative generation projects to enhance TEC’s energy supply portfolio. The team focuses on integrating cutting-edge technologies that improve efficiency, reduce emissions, and support long-term grid reliability.
Emerging Technology plays a critical role in shaping TEC’s future energy infrastructure. By identifying and deploying advanced generation solutions—such as major generation expansion projects with a focus on improving fuel efficiency, emissions compliance and dual-fuel reliability. The department ensures TEC remains a resilient, sustainable, and forward-thinking utility.
- Serve as the primary technical liaison between our engineering contractor and TEC stakeholders
- Ensure TEC and industry standards are appropriately applied during the project
- Coordinate project needs across all engineering disciplines to insure a fully integrated design
- Review and provide quality control and technical oversight to the engineered equipment procurement process
- Work closely with Power Station personnel on major design decisions to achieve buy-in
- Perform value engineering to optimize project life cycle cost
- Provide technical support to the construction team to insure compliance with the design documents
- Support timely RFI resolution with the construction team
- Support the turnover and commissioning process
- Support project close-out activities including spare parts purchasing, operating procedures and system descriptions and final documentation
Required: Bachelors degree in an Engineering discipline from an accredited college or university.
Preferred: Minimum of 4 years of experience supervising engineering and technical personnel
Required: Registration as a Professional Engineer in the state of Florida
Required: Minimum of 12 years of direct work experience in Power Plant design engineering with specific experience on large, multi-disciplinary projects
Required: Knowledge of Power Plant design practices and industry design standards, ability to effectively communicate across a broad range of disciplines and backgrounds

Work will be performed in a combination of an office setting as well as at the construction site and vendors facilities. Relocation to Chicago, IL is required for a period up to one year. Work at the construction site will require routine extended days and occasional weekends.
Work at the construction site will require extensive time outdoors in hot conditions, significant walking, climbing of ladders/stairs and work at heights.
