Internship Overview
•
Our year-round program allows students to achieve both practical knowledge of engineering as well as experience in an operational testing facility. Instead of going on coffee runs and making copies, you will be involved in critical decisions influencing the design and planning of major civil construction projects.
•
The Material Testing Lab at West Texas Paving, Inc. is responsible for managing the day-to-day quality control testing for the largest asphalt plant facility in the Lubbock region. The team also oversees the engineering and design of roadway materials.
Internship Objectives
•
Interact with engineering firms, construction companies, and government agencies on active construction projects.
•
Understand how roadways are engineered using civil plans and specifications.
•
Gain experience using lab instruments to perform pavement analysis during both design and production.
•
Be involved in daily QC testing for asphalt plant production.
•
Complete material testing using TxDOT quality control guidelines.
Required Skills and Qualifications
•
Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate engineering school
•
Physical fitness and the ability to lift 50-pound buckets
•
Precision in work and attention to detail
•
Ability to maintain a clean and organized working area
