The Opportunity

Nova Scotia Power’s 3-year rotational Engineer in Training program is designed to develop our Engineers in Training (EIT) technical and leadership skills to enable them to become technical and people leaders at Nova Scotia Power and shape the future of our company for our customers. Throughout this three year program, EITs will continue to develop their knowledge base by working with a variety of teams across the business, including the operational areas of Power Production. At the end of the program, you will have fulfilled 36 months of work experience required toward receiving your Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation.

Power Production

Locations you may work in as a Power Production EIT include our power generation facilities located at Lingan, Point Aconi, Point Tupper, Trenton, Tuft’s Cove as well as several hydro operations throughout the province. Business departments you may work in as a Power Production EIT include work in Hydro, Wind and Thermal power generation, project management and tracking, mitigating risk and planning for our power generation system. We

are

currently looking to fill four (4) Engineer-In Training positions as part of our EIT Rotational Program for Power Production to start work in June 2026. In this role you will either work out of the Halifax Regional Municipality, Trenton or Cape Breton with some travel to other areas of the province as required. Please specify location preference when applying.

Key Elements Of This Role Include

- Rotate through various Power Production roles and locations (i.e. Thermal Generation, Hydro and Wind, Project Management and Construction)

- Receive training and experience in office and field engineering work.

- Prepare plans, designs, calculations, cost estimates and bills of materials for a variety of projects.

- Complete tasks in accordance with established codes, standards, engineering practices, drawings and/or other specifications.

- Perform routine technical surveys and inspections and prepare reports.

- Respond to storm events and participate in power restoration efforts.

This position is considered a safety sensitive position. As such, the successful candidate must comply with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Policy which requires a confidential pre-employment alcohol and drug test in accordance with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Procedure.

You will be responsible for personal safety and that of co-workers by observing all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations. You will be accountable for environmental performance as it relates to the environmental management system processes and initiatives.

You recognize yourself in most of the following competencies, and where possible possess the skills and experience listed below:

- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical and Civil, open to Chemical and Electrical) and graduating by Spring 2026

- Registered member or eligible for membership with Engineers Nova Scotia.

- Self-starter with excellent organizational and analytical skills.

- Able to function effectively in a team environment.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

- Adaptable to learning new computer applications.

- Demonstrated commitment to personal development.

- Valid Nova Scotia Driver’s License, and a willingness to support emergency power restoration outside normal business hours.

The successful candidate must be willing and able to travel and complete a full background check which includes a Criminal Record check.
