The Distribution Engineer is responsible for the safe, reliable, and cost-effective design of electric distribution systems for REI Utility Services’ clients. This role utilizes established engineering principles and practices to complete projects and support process improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate demonstrates technical proficiency, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work collaboratively across departments to meet project goals and deadlines.
- Perform engineering design for overhead and underground electric distribution systems under direct supervision.
- Utilize established procedures and software tools to perform assigned tasks accurately and efficiently.
- Assist in gathering and analyzing data from internal and external sources to support engineering designs and project planning.
- Support development and implementation of internal engineering work processes.
- Participate in project and process improvement initiatives as assigned.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful execution of engineering tasks and project deliverables.
- Prepare technical reports and documentation to support engineering analysis and recommendations.
- Occasionally travel to off-site project locations and customer meetings.
- All other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited four-year college or university.
- Professional Engineer (PE) License in the State of Texas (Electrical).
- Advanced knowledge of engineering concepts, practices, and procedures related to electric distribution systems.
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in the design of overhead and underground electric distribution systems.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate with all levels of personnel.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision.
- Strong initiative, research, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work both independently and within a team environment.
- Willingness to travel occasionally for site visits, client meetings, or project-related work.
- 10 years of experience in electric utility distribution system design.
- Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, or other computer-aided drafting systems.
- Proficiency with pole loading software (e.g., PLS-CADD).
- Experience with system load analysis software (e.g., CYME, SYNERGY).
- Technical writing experience or college coursework in technical writing.
