Metro Engineering Solutions, LLC (“MES”) is looking for an Distribution Engineer to join our team! MES is a multifaceted utility and telecommunications engineering firm serving clients throughout the Midwest. The Distribution Engineer is responsible for leading the design and coordination for all aspects of work related to distribution for utilities, smart grid automation systems and the integration of smart devices.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Develop and prepare distribution voltage packages for both overhead and underground projects, including distribution equipment installation, voltage conversions, feeder replacement, cable replacement, and new feeder design.
- Designing various new business projects, including line extensions (primary and secondary) and services of various degrees of difficulty and customer types (residential, commercial, industrial, developments).
- Designing in a CAD system.
- Work on customer easements (or work with Right of Way Department)
- Work on local permits (or work with Permitting Department.
- Tracks and coordinates project progress.
- Create project scopes and materials in tools like SAP or Maximo.
- Coordinate field/construction work, closeout, etc.
- Obtaining field notes outdoors and occasionally work in remote areas.
- Responsible for leading QA/QC efforts.
- Ability to work with NESC standards and utility standards, guides, specifications, and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned by Project Manager.
- Interpret sketches, drawings, building program and other similar material.
- Primarily work in an office setting.
- Ability to travel and/or work in the field as needed.

- Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program.
- Successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) is preferred.
- Minimum three to five (3-5) years of electrical engineering experience.
- Strong knowledge of electrical distribution power flow, construction methods, equipment, and proficiency in design software and GIS.
- Experience with power system analysis using CYME or ETAP is preferred.
- Experience with load flow analysis and familiarity with policy regulatory issues.
- Prior experience with electric utility operations, planning, or consulting, and experience with distribution planning software.
