We're looking for an
Energy Markets Engineer
to join our team in Houston. This role will be responsible for supporting the OEUS Risk and Trading team on technical tasks such as data engineering, model development, and building out the commercial data platform. You will work in close collaboration with traders and analysts, the US Data Team, and the group-wide global data and engineering teams.
What you'll do:•Developing and maintaining commercial data pipelines and tools
•Daily support of risk and trading model development utilizing your skills in data engineering and optimization & performance
•Creation and automation of risk workflows and processes (VaR, MtM, Valuation Engines, Pricing, etc.)
•Collaborating with the global data and engineering team to share data and build out global reporting pipelines
•Standardizing data feeds for ad hoc, quick analysis and maintaining analyst views
•Monitoring and developing reporting on overnight jobs to be run prior to the start of the trading day
•In cooperation with the risk and trading team, design and implement portfolio monitoring and market fundamental forecasting processes
•Communicate technical knowledge across a wide range of stakeholders from team leadership to executives
•Development of market data pipelines & time series analysis data engineering infrastructure to support regression analysis, basis/spread trading, weather forecasting, and high impact commercial data applications.
What you'll need:
•2 -5 years experience in a data engineering role, ideally within or supporting a commercial energy organization
•Background in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or other relevant disciplines
•Experience working with a modern tech stack in a fast past, big data environment
•Experience working with SQL, Python, Kubernetes, DBT, Databricks, AWS, Airflow
•Experience working in a collaborative, Git-based production environment, with responsibilities including testing, version control, and responsible management of production changes
•Strong, adaptive communicator; comfortable taking initiative and working closely with traders, managers, and executives across front, middle, and back office teams in a fast-paced environment
•We’re passionate about energy markets and welcome team members who are curious and driven — this role offers exposure to real commercial decision-making and values independence and a willingness to learn
•Comfortable with tackling complex data & market issues both independently and as part of a dynamic team
It'd be great if you also had:
•Experience working with analysts and traders in a commercial/trade floor environment
•Knowledge of financial instruments (futures, swaps, options,etc.) and their use in energy markets
•Understanding of data intensive portfolio management processes (Value at Risk, Marked to Market PnL, Quantitative Portfolio Optimization…)
•Experience working with Monte Carlo simulations and understanding of stochastic processes use cases in forecasting
•Experience in energy markets, specifically ERCOT power.
•Experience in power markets fundamental forecasting, pricing, and/or valuation analysis
