As our Market and Operations Analytics Advisor or Senior Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the reliable and efficient operation of the power grid that serves 45 million people. In this position, you’ll apply advanced engineering and analytical techniques to evaluate and report on the performance and outcomes of MISO’s energy markets and system operations.
As part of a growing and collaborative team, you’ll work across the organization to deliver compelling storytelling on the performance and outcomes of MISO’s energy markets and operations. You’ll identify and communicate trends and insights, support data-informed decisions, and drive process improvements that enhance the value, efficiency, and reliability of the energy grid.
Within your first year as our Market and Operations Analytics Advisor or Senior Engineer, you’ll know you’re successful if you:
- Effectively apply advanced engineering and analytical techniques to assess the performance and outcomes of MISO’s energy markets and operations, conduct impact assessments, and support analytics-driven decision-making.
- Collect and thoroughly analyze complex, cross-departmental data sets to identify trends and insights, investigate anomalies, and uncover opportunities to enhance energy market and operations performance.
- Develop and deliver clear data visualizations, narratives, and metrics that effectively communicate energy market and operations performance to internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate across the organization to communicate results, resolve issues, and influence process improvements that drive value and reliability.
- Conduct ad-hoc engineering analyses on major operational and energy market events or scenarios, presenting findings to support timely and informed business decisions.
- Establish, streamline, and automate analytical processes to ensure efficient, consistent, and impactful outcomes.
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, or Electronics and Computer Engineering Technology.
- Have at least four years of hands-on experience in areas such as power system engineering, modeling and simulation, energy market and operations, data science, statistical and econometric analysis, market analysis and design, or optimization algorithms.
- Demonstrate proficiency with data analytics tools and languages commonly used for power system and market analysis—such as Power BI, Python, SQL, and Azure.
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Electronics and Computer Engineering Technology, Power Systems Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Bring at least eight years of relevant experience in areas such as power system engineering, modeling and simulation, energy market and operations, data science, statistical and econometric analysis, market analysis and design, or optimization algorithms.
Bonus qualifications that would set you apart:
- Familiarity with power system engineering tools like PSSE, PowerGEM, PROMOD, or Plexos.
- Previous experience in the energy industry, particularly with ISO/RTO markets, system operations, or utility planning.
- A Master’s or PhD in a relevant technical or analytical field.
Appropriate level will be determined based upon experience and knowledge.
The base salary compensation range being offered for this role is $123,000-$143,000 USD annually. Base salary range for this position is included in accordance with requirements of various state/local pay transparency legislation. Please note that salaries may vary for different individuals in the same role based on several factors, including but not limited to location of the role, individual competencies, education/professional certifications, and qualifications/experience.
