Position Background. The Energy Engineer Intern (preferably recent graduate) will support energy efficiency and decarbonization projects for commercial and multifamily residential buildings in NYC. .
The Intern will provide support in the way of completing energy savings calculations for various energy projects in buildings, document management, organization of databases, and general support to RKB staff.
They should have solid knowledge in heat pump systems (thermodynamics), building controls, LED lighting retrofits, building controls, etc. Additionally, they will need to be proficient in fully understanding Local Law 97, 88, 84, and 87. They should be familiar with the practical application of ASHRAE energy audits.
Professional communication skills are critical - This candidate will interface with building owners, Property Managers, vendors, and contractors. The candidate should also have clear strengths in organization of files and complex projects.
The candidate should be within 20-30 minutes of the RKB office at 462 7th Ave.
- Evaluate energy-efficient technologies and their suitability for site conditions.
- Perform detailed energy and carbon savings calculations (Local Law 97) and define financial benefits.
- Develop presentable energy reports (with limited or no use of AI).
- Track project progress in databases and provide status updates to team members.
- Prepare and manage utility incentive applications.
- Write detailed quarterly reports and case studies.
- Experience in Energy (Mechanical and/or Electrical) Engineering and Project Management.
- Knowledge of large commercial and residential building systems
- Knowledge of NYC Local Laws, energy codes, and utility incentive programs.
- Experience working with vendors and contractors.
- Knowledge of codes such as NYECC
- Must have excellent written and verbal communcation skills in all aspects of correspondence
- Must be , organized, and produce consistent high-quality work.
- Capable of tracking several projects of varying complexity, in various stages of completion.
- Recently graduated or demonstrated experience completing Energy Engineering projects.
- Skilled in using Microsoft Excel, Monday.com, energy modeling software, project management software (pre-training will be required for any unfamililar areas)
