We are seeking a Senior Energy Engineer to join our team and support energy efficiency program evaluations. The Senior Energy Engineer will be a key technical resource for the evaluation team, ensuring technically accurate savings calculations and maintaining high levels of client satisfaction.
- Manage on-site inspections & end-use metering activities at commercial and institutional facilities.
- Write and review site specific M&V plans, QC fieldwork.
- Calculate and verify savings for energy conservation measures using engineering and statistical techniques.
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior engineering staff in regard to field work and technical analyses
- Calculate energy savings with TRM algorithms, temperature bin analysis, lighting calculators, eQUEST modeling and other tools.
- Utilize and apply statistical, economic and financial analysis tools in support of business and policy analysis for demand-side management in the energy and utilities industry.
- Develop quantitative cost benefit or risk models.
- Analyze utility and energy efficiency program data utilizing Excel or other analytical software, identifying trends, summarizing program events, and identifying causal impacts on program results.
- Work independently or with supervision to manage research projects and participate in research efforts, ensuring consistency and quality of research methods.
- Conduct primary research by collecting original data through fieldwork, interviews, or metering activities.
- Conduct secondary research using published studies, program tracking data, evaluation reports, and TRMs.
- Meet with clients to present findings and recommendations at client meetings.
- Document findings visually and/or verbally for memos and reports to clients and/or internal project teams.
- Publish papers and other research material.
- Support senior staff with development of presentations, papers and proposals.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mechanical, energy or electrical engineering and related disciplines such as energy systems, environmental and public policy.
- 5+ years of experience working with Demand Side Management (DSM) Consultancies, Energy Service Companies (ESCO), Design Build firms, or Engineering firms.- General understanding of common commercial building systems (lighting, electrical, HVAC, water, envelope, etc.), building automation systems (BAS), and controls.
- Experience with IMPVP options, and the ability to coach junior engineers in this regard.
- Strong understanding of how loggers are deployed on equipment (light loggers, power metering, temperature loggers, etc.), how to connect and disconnect them, and how to read data from appropriate software.
- Experience with building energy modeling, energy use billing analysis, and energy savings calculation algorithms
- Strong written and oral presentation skills, as well as client interface capabilities.
- Self-driven team player with a passion for energy efficiency solutions.
- Demonstrated experience with field-based activities and ability to work remotely.
- Demonstrated good working knowledge of MS Office tools - i.e., Excel, Word - and databases.
- Proficient in English
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, and drive a car.
- Relevant AEE certifications – CEM, CMVP, CBCP – are a plus
- Energy auditing and/or retro-commissioning experience is a plus.
- Experience/expertise with relevant software tools such as eQUEST, RETScreen, Trane TRACE, Energy Plus, PV Watts, etc.
