The Opportunity
We are currently seeking an
Emergency Response Supervisorto join our
Health, Safety, Environment, and Riskteam in
Long Harbour, NL.This permanent position will be on a 4x10s schedule (Monday to Thursday or Tuesday to Friday) working at the Long Harbour Operations site in Long Harbour, NL.
The Emergency Response Supervisor is responsible for the development, implementation, and continual improvement of the emergency response plan at the Long Harbour Operations site. This plan is currently undergoing significant change and improvement as the site strives to meet a Responsible Care standard set by the Chemistry Industry Association of Canada, along with internal Vale standards. Several new response scenarios will need to be developed. The incumbent will be a critical link between the Emergency Response Team and the Crisis Management Team. As improvements are made to the site’s emergency preparedness plans, the Emergency Response Supervisor will use the management of change process to detail the changes needed to equipment, training and emergency drill schedules. The Emergency Response Supervisor is responsible for the supervision of the Emergency Response Team Leads who are accountable for the day-to-day routines, inspections, training, response to emergency calls and incident command. The Emergency Response Coordinator is also responsible for the acquisition, and maintenance of emergency response equipment and assets to ensure that all resources are in place for the protection of people, property, and the environment at the Long Harbour Operations site.
Additionally, in this position you will:
- Develop, implement, maintain, and continually improve the site Emergency Response Plan.
- Support the HSR team on implementing, maintaining and continuously improving the Crisis Management Plan.
- Post incident analysis and investigation.
- Ensure readiness of Emergency Response Team for all response scenarios at the Long Harbour Operations site including but not limited to, fire, gas response, loss of containment of hazardous materials, dam/water retaining structure failure, environmental response, etc.
- Communicate about emergency preparedness to a wide range of stakeholders, internally and externally and represent VNL in various forums.
- A two-year College Diploma – NFPA Firefighter Level 1 and II/Emergency Response or equivalent is required.
- Class 5 or equivalent driver's license is required.
- Considered an asset:
- Post-secondary education in Occupational, Health & Safety, Process Safety, or related technical discipline.
- Understanding of the Hydromet operation would also be considered an asset.
- Degree in Emergency Management or related field.
- Pump Operations, Hydraulics, Driver/Operator Airbrake endorsement.
- 1021 Fire Officer or NFPA.
- AMFR (Advanced Medical First Aid).
- NFPA 1081, Industrial Firefighter
- NFPA 472, Hazardous Materials - min. of Operations.
- NFPA 1006, Certified Rescue Technician.
- NFPA Fire Instructor Level 1.
- NFPA Vehicle Rescue.
- NFPA High Angle Rescue.
- NFPA Confined Space Rescue.
- A minumum of 5 years experience in a similar supervisory/leadership role.
- Experience as a Fire Chief/Officer in an industrial setting would be an asset.
- Experience in post-incident analysis and investigation.
- Broad understanding of emergency response scenarios in a chemical plant work environment.
- Competent knowledge of applicable OH&S and NFPA legislation and codes.
- Strong organization skills to coordinate with internal and external stakeholder to achieve a goal.
- Strong communication skills to impart emergency preparedness training to people with a wide variety of backgrounds (e.g. senior management team members who participate in Crisis Management Team)
- Strong risk mitigation awareness and control effectiveness and the ability to apply learnings through debriefs and feedback loops.
- Excellent communication (written and verbal).
- Able to work independently, as well as part of a team.
