The Emergency Manager at NiSource is responsible for overseeing Emergency Preparedness & Response (EP&R) plans for the organization. This role entails designing, updating, and maintaining EP&R strategies, ensuring the organization's readiness through emergency exercise drills and training sessions. The Emergency Manager will cultivate and manage relationships with key stakeholders, emergency response teams, and local and state governmental officials across the company's footprint. In addition, the Emergency Manager will collaborate within the six state service area, impacted shared services, and corporate centers to implement and enhance the Incident Command System, ensuring effective coordination and response during emergencies. This position plays a crucial role in safeguarding the organization's assets and ensuring the safety and well-being of employees and the communities served by NiSource.
Your responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Leader in Incident Execution: Support the Incident Commander in executing the EP&R plan during incidents. High level of organizational ability to manage data and people in an emergency setting.
- Training Strategy and Execution: Create, support, and execute overall emergency response training plans, including scenario exercises for all levels of incidents. Lead the incident management team in executing the plan with various states and operations groups.
- After Action Reviews: Lead the strategy for After Action Reviews and the corrective action process through completion, applying learnings to the emergency and incident command structure, and sharing changes with the organization as per API RP173 requirements.
- Technology Strategy Development: Create and support the development of the technology strategy for the maintenance, updates, and execution of emergency preparedness and response plans.
- Relationship Management: Build and maintain relationship strategies and plans across our footprint, including utility leaders, local emergency management agencies, public safety organizations, and other officials. Leading groups through projects where high collaboration with stakeholders is needed at many levels of the company. Collaboration across departments and states.
- Regulatory Compliance: Provide emergency preparedness and response information for filing plans with regulatory bodies.
- Continuous Improvement: Manage continuous improvements to emergency plans and processes activated during incidents. Collaborate with key stakeholders on such improvements.
- Plan Tracking and Updates: Track changes and improvements made to the emergency plans.
- Employee Role Management: Execute the process to identify, track, and update employees assigned to Incident Command System (ICS) roles.
- Record Retention: Ensure record retention of all incident-related documentation.
You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience - 5+ years of experience in developing emergency management programs
- Completion of ICS 100, 200, 300, 400, and NIMS 700 and 800
- Valid driver's license required
- State-level or IAEM Certified Emergency Manager certification required or must be obtained within twelve months of employment
- Certification or ability to obtain certification within twelve months of employment as a trainer for NIMS or ICS training and/or exercise practice is preferred.
- Completion of the FEMA Professional Development Series (must be obtained within one year of employment)
