- Electricians shall work in generating stations, substations, repair shops and other locations and except as provided for
Power Line Technician, Electricians shall have jurisdiction over the operation of unattended stations and unattended
portions of stations
- Notwithstanding the duties assigned to a Power Line Technician, an Electrician may on occasion be required to switch on
three (3) phase feeder circuits and/or supply circuits where fault conditions have occurred and a Power Line Technician is
not readily available
- A Journeyperson Electrician shall maintain, install, adjust, inspect, modify, test, troubleshoot and repair main and auxiliary
- This may include electrical wiring, switchboard wiring, transformer connections, switchgear, bus work, low tension control
- Notwithstanding the duties assigned to a Power Cable Technician or Power Line Technician, an Electrician may work on
single conductor plastic insulated cables and accessories up to and including 20/35 kV restricted to cables utilizing
mechanical terminations and connections
- Such cable work is not to include work on line terminations, distribution feeders or on lead or metallic cables over 600 volts
- As per IBEW Collective Agreement.
- Interprovincial Red Seal Endorsement in Construction Electrician or Industrial Electrician
- A valid Class 5 B.C. driver's license
- Physically capable to perform the work
- Strong commitment to safety, WorkSafeBC requirements and safe working practices
- Good written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills in dealing with employees, internal and external
- Good computer skills in a Windows environment and knowledge of and use of email, Internet and other computer systems

This location is eligible for a Remote Incentive of 12%. Remote Incentives are paid bi-weekly to Full-Time Regular
employees working in eligible remote locations.

- Smithers electrician office will be at Telkwa TKW substation.
- Out of town work and travel is a requirement – including, but not limited to, Glenannan HQ area, Terrace HQ area, Prince
Rupert HQ area. (West Interior/North Coast is a huge geographical area and support from the Smithers electrician will be
frequently demanded as required by assignments.)
- The ability to work alone; travel safely to and from different headquarters, stations, or remotes sites is a requirement.
- Provide electrical and switching support during emergency equipment failures.
- Alternate modes of transportation to access work sites of the area consist of helicopter, boat, snowmobile and snow-cat
- During work travel, awareness of avalanche hazards and preparation will be required.
- The work may include electrical wiring, switchboard wiring, low tension control cable work, switchgear and bus work,
transformer connections, transformer oil testing, chargers, battery banks, diesel gensets, and other electrical and electronic
equipment.
- Planning and completion of maintenance for the West Interior/North Coast SFO assets and supporting the Terrace, Prince
Rupert and Smithers areas. The Prince Rupert area includes two generating facilities, FLS (small hydro) and RPG
(thermal).
- FLS near Prince Rupert and on Ecstall River. FLS is a camp environment where catering is generally not provided. Crews
are responsible to cook and clean for themselves for the period of the stay (typically one week and longer during major
outages).
- RPG is thermal generating station near Port Edward. Electrical support is frequently requested.
- Attend and provide meaningful input to scheduling, technical, or project related meetings.
- Provide effective feedback of work and work status' and advise his/her sub-foreperson of electrical industry best practices
- An Electrical Skills Assessment may form part of the selection process
- There are multiple bids simultaneously in progress, to streamline the process you will be interviewed and/or tested once
and the results applied to all positions you have bid on closing at the same time as this one.
