Summary
A skilled and detail-oriented Electrical Process Engineer to ensure the efficient and reliable operation of electrical systems and processes critical to plant performance at the Cardinal generating station located in Brilliant, Ohio. Responsible areas include but are not limited to low, medium, and high voltage systems, transformers, motors, generators, and other power producing systems. This engineer will play a critical role in ensuring operational efficiency, safety, reliability, and long-range planning of system maintenance ensuring new technologies are integrated adequately and existing technologies are appropriately maintained.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
•Scope, plan, coordinate, and manage the design, construction, and commissioning of new and modifications of plant systems.
•Responsible for creating or updating drawings, system descriptions, and other design-basis documentation.
•Responsible for ensuring projects, modifications, and updates follow applicable design standards. This includes reviewing designs from outside engineering firms to ensure they are following these standards.
•Develop and configure Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems.
•Provide technical support of automation systems including DCS, PLC, HMI, Variable Frequency Drives, instrumentation, controls, and plant electrical systems.
•Continuously monitor plant processes for potential performance improvements.
•Integrate new automation technologies into existing plant infrastructure.
•Develop and maintain safety logic, interlocks, and emergency shutdown systems. Ensure all automation systems comply with relevant safety and regulatory standards.
•Develop preventative maintenance schedules for generators, transformers, and power systems including long range planning of system overhauls and component replacement satisfying all reliability and compliance requirements.
•Work with process owners to facilitate budgetarily based risk mitigation strategies for assigned equipment.
•Utilize in-place work management systems to prioritize work and track costs associated with completed projects.
•Develop and maintain an understanding of the impact of technical strategies and business decisions on the Cardinal Operating Company, its customers, and other organizational units, and provide input for these decisions.
•Network throughout the organization, other companies, and regulatory agencies.
•Create root cause analysis of equipment performance issues to determine corrective actions and make recommendations for resolution.
•Manage arc flash and North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) on behalf of Cardinal plant satisfying all reliability and regulatory compliance requirements.
•Maintain technical documents including equipment manuals, maintenance requirements, spare parts, and equipment specifications.
•Implement Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement practices to enhance plant efficiency and reliability.

Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or a related field, in a program accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET)
Licenses and Certifications: Registration of a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. State is encouraged and preferred.
Experience:
•Relevant on-the-job experience or education above and beyond that described above may be substituted for part of the experience and/or education requirement
Abilities & Skills:
•Knowledge of industry standard power distribution systems.
•Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.)
•Experience with SCADA, DCS, PLC, and HMI systems
•Knowledge of communication protocols such as Modbus, Profibus, and OPC.
•Strong understanding of instrumentation, sensors, and actuators.
•Ability to interpret electrical schematics and process flow diagrams (PFDs, P&IDs).
•Ability to work in a team environment with a diverse work force.
•Ability to make sound engineering decisions with minimal or no supervision.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and walk; sit; work with hands and fingers; push, pull, reach, climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; communicate with others to exchange information; and hear. The employee must have close visual acuity to analyze data, perform inspections, and view computer monitors; and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs..
Work Environment
This position could require working in extreme heat and cold both in inside and outside environments; environments containing fumes, odors, dust, gases, and high amounts of noise and vibration. Additionally, this position requires the ability to work in close quarters, narrow passageways, at heights, on grating, platforms and catwalks. Work outside normal business hours may be required.
