About This Job

Parker Water & Sanitation District is currently seeking qualified candidates for an open Electrician position. This opportunity includes multiple levels of classification, and applicants will be considered for the level that best aligns with their experience and qualifications. Each level is outlined below, along with the corresponding job description and requirements. Please note, a Journeyman (or higher) license is requried for all levels.

We are offering a $5,000 hiring bonus for this position. $2,500 paid after 30 days of employment and the remaining $2,500 paid after 6 months of successful employment.


General Statement of Duties

This non-exempt position is responsible for the electrical operation, repair, maintenance and preventive maintenance of the District’s water/wastewater equipment and facilities. Also assists in new electrical, instrumentation and controls installations at District facilities.


Supervision Received

Works under the direct supervision of the Electrical Supervisor and under the general direction of the Maintenance Superintendent.


Electrical Instrumentation & Controls Technician I


Primary Duties and Responsibilities


Instrumentation & Controls:

- Calibrates, maintains, tests, troubleshoots, and repairs electrical and mechanical equipment such as: transmitters which include pressure, magnetic flow, radar, both electric and pneumatic actuators and positioners.

- Troubleshoots control system and electrical power system failures in plants, lift stations and pump stations.

- Troubleshoots and maintains VFD’s and soft starts.

- Maintains awareness of new technology.

- Assists senior Technicians with programming and commissioning of new installations and upgrades.


Electrician:

- Tests, troubleshoots, repairs and modifies District's motors, power supplies, transformers, and other electrical equipment and components to ensure a safe, efficient and acceptable operating standard.

- Diagnoses the cause of electrical malfunctions or failures of equipment. Performs repairs and conducts preventive maintenance or recommends modification or replacement of equipment.

- Project Management of electrical projects including current infrastructure as well as new construction.

- Monitors electrical consumption and recommends electrical cost-efficient methods of equipment operation.

- Develops electrical preventative maintenance policies and procedures to ensure effective and efficient operation of the water and wastewater systems.

- Performs troubleshooting and repairs of HVAC units for all District facilities.

- Operates construction, maintenance equipment and other mechanized equipment and hand tools as required to complete assigned maintenance tasks.

- Specifies and sources electrical equipment. Maintains electrical supply inventory and records.

- Maintain accurate documentation of repairs made, materials used, and time spent using CMMS work order system.

- Performs routine physical cleanup and housekeeping of work areas, equipment, and buildings using standard cleaning equipment and material.

- Adhere to all safety policies, procedures, and regulations to ensure a safe working environment.

- Read and interpret electrical blueprints, diagrams, and schematics.

- Performs additional duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

- Solid knowledge of standard practices, principles, methods, materials and tools used in the electrical trade.

- Solid knowledge of the National Electrical Code, NFPA 70E Electrical Safety in the Workplace, hazards and safety precautions specific to the electrical, mechanical and operational fields within the Water/Wastewater Industry.

- Basic ability to read and interpret P&ID, electrical blueprints, diagrams, and schematics

- Basic understanding in principles of process control, electrical equipment, lower SCADA networks, Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)

- Strong knowledge of current NEC and NFPA electrical standards and procedures

- Basic skills of troubleshooting, calibrating, and repairing process controls and instrumentation.

- Basic skills of VFD and soft start motor controlling device troubleshooting and maintenance.

- Solid skills of electrical and mechanical troubleshooting.

- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in a written format. Ability to work effectively with supervisors, co-workers, contractors, vendors, and deal tactfully with the public.

- Act as a subject matter expert regarding electrical issues

- Ability to focus attention on tasks which may be complex, routine or repetitive without losing concentration or becoming distracted by external activities. Ability to adapt to interruptions, equipment failures, unusual demands or changing priorities.

- Ability to work quickly and safely under pressure of emergency situations

- Ability to work overtime when needed

- Ability to work standby on a rotating basis and/or callback duty

- Ability to manage capital improvement projects as assigned.


Qualifications/Experience

- 1 - 3 years of experience in instrumentation and controls.

- Journeyman level or higher required.

- Must have a Motor Vehicle Record within the Acceptable rating according to the Vehicle Policy.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities


Instrumentation & Controls:

- Installs, commissions, calibrates, maintains, tests, troubleshoots, tunes, and repairs electrical and mechanical equipment such as: transmitters which include pressure, magnetic flow, radar, both electric and pneumatic actuators and positioners.

- Troubleshoots control system and electrical power system failures in plants, lift stations and pump stations.

- Troubleshoots and maintains VFD's and soft starts including programming and tuning.

- Maintains awareness of new technology.

- May perform lead work duties on projects on occasions.

- Performs programming and commissioning of new installations and upgrades.


Electrician:

Qualifications/Experience

- ISA CCST Level I required.

- 5 years of education and experience in instrumentation and controls.

- Journeyman level or higher license required.

- Must have a Motor Vehicle Record within the Acceptable rating according to the Vehicle Policy.


Working Conditions/Physical Activities (for all levels)

- Monday through Friday, 40-hour workweek.

- Will be on rotating emergency on-call duty in addition to the regular workweek. May be subject to mandatory overtime on an as needed basis to work within the department and for other duties as assigned.

- This position is designated Essential Personnel per the Emergency Response Plan during a severe winter weather warning or event.

- Perform strenuous physical labor and stand for extended periods of time.

- Works in wastewater and water plants where elevated levels of noise, irritants, dust, dirt, bacteria, hazardous chemicals/air/materials and fumes are always present. May come into contact with raw wastewater. Vaccinations such as Hepatitis A & B and Tetanus are strongly recommended and offered at no cost.

- Work may take place outside in all weather conditions. May be exposed to risks typically associated with working around water, chemicals, electricity and other man-made and natural hazards. The use of a respirator may be required for some tasks. Will work in confined spaces.

- Lifting and handling objects up to 50 pounds occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently.

- Full range of body movements including stooping, twisting, kneeling, bending, leaning, reaching, climbing (heights), stretching and working in awkward positions.

- Must be able to operate motor vehicles read, record, and interpret information. Must be able to communicate with others in person and over the telephone.

- This position will remain open for a minimum of 5 days from posting date and until a sufficient pool of qualified candidates has been received.

The hiring range for this position will be dependent on license level and experience. The hiring range for each classification is below:

Electrical Instrumentation & Controls Technician I - $31.66 - $39.58 per hour

Electrical Instrumentation & Controls Technician II - $36.92 - $46.15 per hour
