Job Overview
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of an Electrical & Control Technician/Technologist
Reporting to the Protection and Control Supervisor this position is responsible to maintain and overhaul all electrical/electronic/control/protection/telecommunication associated with generating stations and facilities.
Key Accountabilities
- Install, commission, inspect, troubleshoot, service, maintain, overhaul, and assist in the design for all electrical, electronic, control, protection, telecommunication, and testing equipment associated with generating stations and facilities.
- Prepare and update electrical, control, instrumentation, protection, and telecommunication sketches, drawings, bills of material, and carry out document maintenance activities.
- Coordinate large or complex projects related to new installations or system upgrades, including contract coordination and quality assurance inspections.
- Assist in designing and programming PLCs (especially Modicon PLCs with Unity Pro/Control Expert), maintain networked PLCs, and troubleshoot field device alarms and failures.
- Work with VT SCADA systems, including integration, screen/tag modifications, and verification of end devices; modify, commission, and maintain SCADA in line with regulatory requirements.
- Set up, program, and connect servers, network switches, modems, routers, gateways, and install/repair/commission network cables. Troubleshoot communication issues related to PLCs, SCADA, protection, and metering.
- Commission, program, and test protection relays and high-voltage equipment; perform various measurements and reliability analyses; develop and maintain supplementary computer programs for system analysis.
- Provide technical support and advice for projects and daily routines, prepare/modify procedures and reports, participate in studies, and ensure health, safety, and well-being in accordance with procedures and standards.- Completed High School Diploma or equivalent, plus a 2-year college diploma in a *related field of study such as: Instrumentation Tech/Technologist; Electrical Tech/Technologist; Electronics Tech/Technologist; Electromechanical Engineering Technology
- Hold a valid Certificate of Qualification (309A or 442A) and Electrical license in Industrial or Construction preferred
- 5+ years of experience as an electrical and control technician/technologist- Preference for candidates with experience installing, maintaining, and inspecting high voltage equipment, as well as programming and troubleshooting Modicon PLCs using Unity Pro.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic team environment, meet tight deadlines, and demonstrate exceptional problem-solving skills.
- Possess strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Days-based position requiring flexibility for weekends, call-outs, and willingness to travel up to 75%.
- Must hold a valid driver’s license and be eligible to work in Canada.

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions. It is not typical for the salary to be offered near the top of the range, and salary is dependent on numerous factors. For management roles, the base salary range does not represent the total compensation package. The total compensation package for regular full-time management roles includes pay-for-performance programs for annual and medium time periods.
