Job Summary (Overall Purpose of the Position)
To provide support for the development, planning, construction and operation of electric distribution and transmission facilities for efficient, safe and reliable system operations.
- Prepare basic engineering calculations following standard methods and principles used in similar engineering analyses.
- Supports engineering model integrity by adding new customers, posting work orders, and applying model corrections as identified.
- Conduct electric system analysis using system planning and design software.
- Familiarize with Midwest construction and design standards and applicable engineering codes.
- Maintain engineering records and lists as required.
- Assist with reports within the Engineering Department.
- As requested, assist with field work to gather information and/or inspect distribution facilities.
- Coordinate design with other personnel working on same project to minimize design conflicts, as assigned.
- Become familiar with all capabilities of Midwest’s OMS.
- Coordinate design efforts with other project personnel in same or other departments. Coordinated items to include space control, schedule, layout optimization, etc. Effectively provide and communicate follow up work as necessary to all personnel that is required for project work.
- Evaluate manufacturers' or contractors' proposals, data, reports, etc. for conformance with Midwest criteria.
- Prepare assigned reports, studies, or analysis for project.
- Maintain and organize records, lists, schedules, etc. for engineering projects.
- Promote safe working habits and enforce all safety rules and regulations of Midwest Energy, Inc. Lead by example in safety compliance and take corrective action on safety violations, defective equipment, and any other practice that may adversely affect a safe working environment.
- Develop and maintain internal and external working relationships for maximum effectiveness in serving Midwest Energy customers and communities. Ensure communication and exchange of information so as to present a positive corporate image, both internally and externally. Keep management informed of issues that might impact the work environment.
- Currently pursuing a degree with a sophomore standing or higher in engineering, pre-engineering, or physics with interest in engineering related fields.
- Completion of Engineering, Physics, Electronic Circuits, and Electricity related coursework, preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Demonstrates strong analytical skills and the ability to process and interpret technical information.
- Applies effective problem-solving techniques to identify and resolve challenges.
- Willingness and ability to develop a working knowledge of the engineering software tools.
- Should have the ability to deal effectively with co-workers in a pleasant and tactful manner.
- Demonstrates initiative, takes ownership of assigned tasks, and stays focused and on tasks.
- Proactively seeks direction when needed and remains open to feedback.
