About This Job

Homer Electric Association (HEA) is a member-owned electric utility serving the central and southern areas of the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska. We are seeking an Engineer III

This position will work in either the Kenai or Homer HEA office dependent on business needs and candidate preference. This will be a salaried (exempt) position with typical work hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Duties And Responsibilities

The following items are related to the Cooperatives needs for generation, transmission, substation, distribution, metering, SCADA, communication, and other systems and equipment as assigned.

- Plan, design, and do specifications development for system equipment upgrades and repairs.

- Analyze operating records to identify abnormal, deficient, undesirable, or unsafe conditions.

- Plan and design revenue metering systems and substation upgrades.

- Performing protection studies and implementing standard procedures for protective setting changes.

- Develop long-range engineering plans, construction work plans, material specifications and engineering procedures.


Education, License & Experience

- ABET accredited bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field.

- Four (4) years of progressively responsible electrical engineering experience is required.

- Satisfactory completion of the Engineering Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam from a state licensing board, is preferred.

- Professional Engineer (PE) license from a state licensing board, is preferred.

- Over six (6) years of progressively responsible electrical engineering experience may be substituted in lieu of degree.


Required Skills & Abilities

- Must demonstrate the skills and results oriented attitude to implement management direction and achieve results with limited direction.

- Must have in-depth knowledge of three phase power flow and related engineering concepts.

- Must have a high level of knowledge of electrical system modeling.

- Must have the ability to apply logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw conclusions.

- Must be able to both train and direct work by Technicians on field equipment to provide technical insight and support maintenance, troubleshooting and commissioning activities.

- Ability to work with exponents and logarithms, linear and quadratic equations, statistical analysis, and other forms of advance math.
