The Distribution Planner is responsible for the design of all transmission and distribution facilities, both overhead and underground.

Position Responsibilities:
•Designs overhead and underground service installations, including the sizing of transformers, conductors and equipment.
•Estimates loads, energy requirements, and annual revenue of new services.
•Collaborates with construction personnel in the design and revision of customer and system jobs.
•Develops budget estimates and line extension costs.
•Prepares, interprets, and revises work orders, plans, material lists and joint pole applications as needed.
•Obtains right-of-way requirement documentation.
•Prepares meter requirement plans for service installations.
•Collaborates with service applicants, developers, consultants, contractors, government agencies and other utilities to obtain installation approvals.
•Drives company vehicle to routinely consult with construction personnel on site, perform field assessments, inspect service installations and system upgrades; verifies facilities for plan records and mapping.
•Analyzes system deficiencies and implements improvements.
•Reconciles estimate to actual cost on all jobs.
•Assists higher classified personnel and Engineers.
•Provides feedback to personnel for process improvement.
•Knows and applies company policies, procedures and safety rules.
•Performs similar and incidental duties as required.
Qualifications and Experience:
•Must pass Edison Electric Institute (EEI) Standardized Test that pertains to this position, and other job-related skills & practical tests. Must successfully complete the requirements of the Job Progression through Step VII.
•Must have or be able to obtain a valid State of Hawaii driver's license.
•Must be able to differentiate a variety of colors.
•Associate's degree in electrical, drafting, related field or equivalent education, training and/or experience.
•Must have six years of utility construction experience or equivalent training and experience as determined by the company.
•Must have personal computer experience.
•Current KIUC applications and Autocad experience, or equivalent training and experience preferred.
•Satisfactory customer relations experience preferred.
•Ability to work with personnel in a positive manner and respectful atmosphere.
•Must have demonstrated ability to complete and maintain all necessary records of projects and work.
•Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
•Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
•Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from clients, customers, and the general public.
•Must possess good interpersonal and organizational skills to handle multiple priorities.
•Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
•Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
•Ability to interpret and extensive variety of technical instruction in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
•While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee is required to walk, bend and reach with legs, feet, hands, and arms.
•The employee must occasionally lift, carry and/or move up to 75 pounds.
•The noise and dust level in the work environment is as would be encountered in normal commercial/industrial sites.
