We are looking for self-motivated Distribution Engineer to join us in the exciting work we do in ATCO Electricity.
Reporting to the Supervising Engineer, this position is responsible for ATCO Electric’s 25kV operational planning of the distribution grid. This area of responsibility will require technical skills in distribution civil design, electrical design and distribution power systems planning.
Experience in doing 25kV overhead/underground design is desirable. There is an opportunity to do either role in this position.
Responsibilities:
System Planning•Operational planning of ATCOs 25kV distribution systems to support distribution design and distribution operations.
•Completes area protection and protection coordination reviews.
•Maintain Distribution Planning models in CYME.
•Identify system problems and develop business cases to resolve them.
•Complete Single Line Diagrams (SLD) and fault studies as required by customers.
•Develop protective schemes and issue settings for programmable devices on both system improvement projects and new customer extensions.
•Ensure long-term reliability and compliance to standards of ATCO Electric’s distribution system in the region.
•Authentication of own and other design team’s work.
Design Engineering
•Project Estimating includes determining routing and estimating for complex projects, participating in field checks, determining the most efficient route of powerline, applying pricing, schedules, and commercial terms for customer proposals.
•Project design of overhead and underground distribution facilities including application of company standard structures, calculation of structure loading and determining pole class and guy length requirements, clearance calculations of overhead facilities. Including sizing of electrical equipment, wire, cable, and voltage drop calculations.
•Determining the right of way requirements for distribution facilities and material requirements.
•Manages external notifications and assists with post-completion technical, financial reviews where necessary, and authentication of own and other designer’s projects.
•Authentication of own and other design team’s work.
•Project Management from initiation until the project is release to construction. Update project management tool in a timely fashion.
•Build schedules for projects and identify changes to projects and associated risks with those changes. Mitigate risks where possible.
•Customer liaison and consultant throughout the Initiating Phase of the Customer Connection Model. This includes communication with the customer on a regular basis from the time the project is raised until it is released to construction.
•Identify ways to meet and exceed customer experience expectations, improve service delivery and reduce costs.
Qualifications:
•Undergraduate degree in Engineering (Electrical, Civil, or equivalent) from an accredited University.
•Professional Engineer or Professional Licensee designation. Licensure with APEGA is required.
•A minimum of 2 years of related experience.
•Strong technical skills in civil structure and electrical design.
•Experience with PLS-CADD or other power line modelling software is an asset.
•Experience with CYME or other system modelling software is an asset.
•Excellent interpersonal and organization skills in addition to strong written and verbal communication skills.
•A valid Alberta driver’s license (Class 5)
