Wood is recruiting for an Intermediate Distribution Designer to join its Projects business, focusing on Transmission & Distribution projects. This position is responsible for developing detailed design drawings, performing engineering calculations, and supporting distribution electrical design projects. The designer will work on overhead and underground distribution projects from feasibility through construction.
This opportunity is hybrid and can be based near the Gulf coast of Florida.

- Technical Design of distribution electrical projects through the entire project lifecycle: from conceptual and feasibility, though detailed design, to construction and service
- Support overhead and underground distribution engineering projects defining scopes of work, completing cost estimates, performing engineering calculations and developing detailed design drawings
- Support the preparation of technical specifications, tender documents, technical reports, and project calculations
- Respond to information requests during construction and complete project documentation including preparation of record drawings
- Maintain and enhance relationships with other design disciplines and external stakeholders and assist team leads and managers
- Conduct on-site condition evaluations and testing for structural integrity (up to 20%; as required)

- An Associate of Science Degree in Engineering or a related field from an accredited college
- At least 3 years of experience designing overhead and underground electric distribution networks
- Knowledge of NESC/IEEE Standards and Codes and major utility Engineering Standards
- Proficiency in electrical design, including selection and installation of conductors, insulators, switchgear, reclosers, fuses, and other distribution equipment
- Experience with smart infrastructure equipment, such as automatic feeder switches, remote sensing switching, and capacitor banks
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to apply sound engineering judgment to resolve technical issues
- Demonstrated ability to take responsibility for high-profile projects
- Proven experience in collaborating with a team of engineers and designers to deliver projects
- Experience with GE Design Manager, Electric Office, (WMS) STORMS, (BOUD) Bently Open Utility Designer, Pole Foreman, Spida-Calc, AutoCAD, and/or PLS-CADD for overhead systems design
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Authorization to lawfully work in the United States without sponsorship from Wood now or in the future is required
- Knowledge of structural, civil, and geotechnical aspects of distribution engineering
- Experience with interconnecting distributed energy resources (DERs) and performing interconnection studies
- Experience in power system analysis (voltage drop, flicker, equipment loading, etc.) using CYME, ETAP, and/or EasyPower
- Experience with substation and transmission projects
- Proficiency in mapping and GIS applications
- Experience mentoring junior staff and leading the technical scope of small and large projects
- Experience working in both Canada and the U.S. for local utility companies
