Director of Process Engineering
The Director of Process Engineering leads a multidisciplinary team of engineers responsible for the design and development of advanced food waste processing systems, including anaerobic digestion, renewable natural gas (RNG) upgrading, and wastewater treatment. This role is both strategic and technical, providing leadership in process innovation, standardization, and delivery across multiple projects. The Director will coordinate closely with the broader engineering team, project management, and external partners to ensure systems are efficient, scalable, and regulatory-compliant. Approximately 30% travel is required.
This role oversees subject matter experts in gas treatment and water treatment design and is expected to bring strong domain expertise in wastewater treatment to guide decision-making and improve system performance across all processing technologies.
What You’ll Do:
Strategic & Technical Leadership
•Set the vision, roadmap, and goals for the process engineering function aligned with company strategy.
•Drive innovation in system design to improve throughput, reduce CAPEX/OPEX, and increase operational reliability.
•Lead the evaluation, selection, and implementation of technologies related to anaerobic digestion, RNG upgrading, and wastewater treatment.
Team & People Development
•Lead, mentor, and manage engineering teams by effectively delegating responsibilities, setting clear priorities, and aligning individual contributions with broader organizational goals.
•Drive team performance and accountability by translating corporate objectives into actionable engineering roadmaps, fostering a culture of motivation, ownership, and results-driven execution.
•Develop performance goals and professional development plans for team members.
•Foster a high-performing, values-driven team culture with strong communication, accountability, and engagement.
Project Delivery & Design Oversight
•Approve and oversee the development of PFDs, P&IDs, mass balances, and process control philosophies.
•Ensure standardization and quality control across all process engineering deliverables.
•Participate in key project milestones including design reviews, PHAs, FATs, and commissioning activities.
Vendor & Equipment Strategy
•Guide equipment specification and procurement strategy to align with process performance targets.
•Build relationships with key technology vendors and influence technical selection processes.
Operations Interface & Troubleshooting
•Provide senior technical support for complex operational issues across existing facilities.
•Lead or support root cause analyses (RCAs), FMEAs, and other structured problem-solving activities.
What You’ll Need:
•Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering.
•10+ years of experience in process engineering, including design of anaerobic digestion, RNG, or wastewater treatment systems.
•3+ years of experience in engineering leadership or management roles.
•Demonstrated success delivering successful designs for continuous processing plants.
•Strong working knowledge of engineering standards, process safety systems (e.g., PHA), and process documentation.
