$190,180 - $237,726 ANNUAL
Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure properly designed, cost-efficient, and timely contracted civil engineering projects by coordinating design efforts, preparing drawings and specifications, construction inspection, and managing project execution.
- Maintain water system integrity, reliability, and safety for customers by providing accurate system location data to utility personnel, contractors, and external utilities, and by surveying new construction for mapping purposes.
- Ensure the integrity, reliability, and safety of the water system by verifying that its design complies with engineering principles, applicable engineering standards, State and Federal regulations, and BPU standards and policies.
- Review plans and drawings submitted by engineers, architects, contractors, developers, and consumers requesting water main extensions or water service to ensure compliance with BPU policies and standards.
- Negotiate, secure, and file easements, rights-of-way, railroad agreements, and highway agreements to support utility infrastructure needs.
- Support cost-effective utility system enhancement and expansion by planning, evaluating, and recommending system improvements and alternatives.
- Oversee the preparation of the Water Operations Division’s Annual Capital and Operating Budgets to ensure financial efficiency and alignment with strategic goals.
- Ensure efficient utility operations by managing mapping, drafting, GIS and recordkeeping services.
- Monitor electric and water growth potential by serving as a representative to the Kansas City, Kansas Development Review Committee and disseminating relevant information.
- Maintain the physical condition of the 300 N. 65th Street building by budgeting for and coordinating maintenance projects and supervising contract custodial staff.
- Ensure a high-performing and diverse staff by directing recruitment, training, development, and evaluation in accordance with the Affirmative Action Plan and personnel policies.
- Provides technical and engineering support for rates and charges and collaborates closely with the Finance Department to ensure alignment and accuracy.
- Denotes essential function
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution
- Minimum of 10 years’ Civil Engineering experience
- Professional Engineer (PE) registration in the State of Kansas required
- Strong knowledge of:
- Experience in contract preparation and administration
- Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills
