Job Summary
The Director of NERC Policy and Engagement lead a strategic team responsible for identifying, tracking, and communicating emerging regulatory and reliability issues across the organization. This role ensures alignment with AEP’s positions on key industry matters and fosters proactive engagement with regulatory bodies, including NERC, and industry stakeholders. The Director will collaborate closely with internal business units, Federal Affairs, and compliance teams to influence policy development and ensure effective implementation of reliability standards.
Job Description What You’ll Do:
- Strategic Monitoring & Communication
- Lead the identification and tracking of emerging NERC/FERC issues and communicate impacts to all relevant Business Units.
- Ensure timely and accurate dissemination of regulatory developments, including potential and new standards.
- Policy Influence & External Engagement
- Represent AEP at NERC to help shape and influence reliability standards and policy direction.
- Collaborate with the Federal Affairs team to monitor and influence NERC and FERC orders.
- Secure and manage AEP representation on key industry committees and working groups.
- Ensure committee participants are well-prepared and aligned with AEP’s strategic positions.
- Internal Coordination & Alignment
- Summarize and distribute key takeaways from industry meetings to internal stakeholders.
- Facilitate cross-functional collaboration with Business Units, Reliability and Compliance Performance Assessment, and the Standards and Audit Support teams on standard development and implementation.
- Standards Development & Compliance Support
- Gather and consolidate Business Unit feedback during standards commenting periods.
- Provide historical context and updates on standards development to support compliant and informed implementation.
- Monitor changes in Public Utility Commission regulations and communicate potential compliance impacts.
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Business, Compliance, Risk Management, Engineering or related field).
- Minimum ten years of experience in progressively responsible positions in the utility sector or similarly regulated industry.
- Proven experience in compliance, audit management, or risk assessment.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lead and motivate a team.
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Committed to 50% travel for this role.
- On-Site in the AEP Headquarters in Columbus, OH or Washington DC office.

Compensation Range:
$155,761.00-202,490.50 USD
