Job Location: Asbury R&D Center - South Plainfield, NJ Location
The Development Chemist will assist in executing product development projects and DOE (design of experiments) within the Asbury Carbons R&D group, which is typically but not limited to dispersions, coatings, and lubricants. The incumbent will work collaboratively with the Coatings & Dispersions (C&D) technical team to provide key technical support for the existing product line and new product development processes. The incumbent may need to travel to customers to understand application needs and to assist in the use of the developed product(s).
· Ensures consistent safety, cleanliness, and organization within the laboratory.
· Assists in the formulation and execution of technical product development plans to achieve product deliverables set by the NBD (new business development) team on time and within project specifications.
· Executes DOE (Design of Experiments) for projects, interprets data results for the New Business Development Group and Marketing teams, and proactively offers feedback on technical development as needed.
· Assists in developing standard operating procedures and batch tickets for new products.
· Assists in evaluating raw materials used to support new product development, and existing product portfolios as needed. Interface with raw material suppliers and the Asbury Supply Chain/Procurement team, as needed.
· Assists in identifying new laboratory and plant equipment, as required.
· Incorporates health and safety and regulatory peripherals into product literature and technical data sheets.
· Attend specific technical trade shows and industry conferences, as needed.
· BS in Chemistry or Materials Engineering, or equivalent
· 1-3 years of experience in industrial chemical-based manufacturing or similar
· Experience working with dispersions and coatings with an understanding of rheology and other similar testing procedures/techniques, preferred
· Experience with DOE (Design of Experiments) preferred
Primary work environment: Laboratory & Office. Secondarily – Plant environment. 10-20% travel expected, or as needed.
Occasionally, employee needs to be able to lift 5-gallon buckets of material, which can weigh up to 50 lbs.
