Job Summary

Under the direction of the Project Director and General Manager, the incumbent will have full responsibility of the day-to-day execution of the Curlew Basin Restart Project. The Deputy Project Director will act as the senior point of contact onsite and ensure alignment across the organization’s overall strategy.

Essential Functions

Oversee the full lifecycle of the project, including feasibility studies, construction execution, and final handover to operations.
Manage the planning and execution of major project scope items, including:

+ Expansion of mine infrastructure on surface and underground to support production mining. + Vertical and horizontal underground capital development. + Procurement of a capital development business partner. + Procurement of mobile equipment for the mine and the mill. + Transportation of ore from the mine site to the mill site. + Refurbishment of the existing mill (processing plant). + Construction of a new tailings dewatering facility. + Conversion of the existing slurry tailings storage facility to a filtered tailings management facility. + Construction of new water management facilities.

Collaborate with the Project Director and site General Manager to define effective organizational structures and communication channels to meet project and corporate needs.
Ensure qualified personnel are in place and teams are organized for efficient and effective delivery.
Align and integrate permitting, environmental, safety, community relations, engineering, operational readiness, and risk management into clear project deliverables.
Establish and maintain systems for managing project scope, quality, cost, and schedule.
Lead and implement communication systems and reporting procedures to ensure timely and accurate updates to site leadership and corporate stakeholders, while proactively identifying and addressing risks, opportunities, and roadblocks.
Provide strategic oversight and direction for early-stage development activities to align with the overall project timeline.
Actively support procurement and contracting activities, including the evaluation of Requests for Proposal (RFPs) to ensure cost-effective and compliant contractor engagement.
Assist in ongoing reporting, budgeting, compliance, and risk management activities to ensure the project remains on track.
Present business cases and status updates to senior management and other key stakeholders to inform strategic decision-making.
Lead the continuous development of a culture of safety and organizational performance as a driver of behaviors for the entire Project team (including contractors and consultants).
Establish strategic and collaborative relationships with Kinross’s Kettle River Operations teams, Kinross technical services, and business partners to ensure the successful completion of the Project.
Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications And Skills

Bachelor’s degree in Mine Engineering, Business Management, or a related field. Masters/MBA preferred.
15+ years of project experience including working for Owner or EPCM firms directly executing large projects or multiple smaller projects.
10 years of experience supervising and mentoring all aspects of project delivery including engineering, procurement, construction, and project services.
Experience leading and/or supporting construction of mining projects essential (preferably brownfield gold projects).
The ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and leadership.
Familiarity with environmental, permitting, and regulatory frameworks related to mining.
Strong knowledge of project planning tools (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project).
Skilled in risk management, budgeting, and cost control.
Commitment to health, safety, environmental, and community standards.
Willingness to work full time at Mill and mine site.
Valid driver’s license required.

Reporting directly to the President/General Manager, while receiving direction and guidance from the Project Director.
